There's a lot about children and their upbringing in Living Ethics books. What is the peculiarity and difference between the approaches to upbringing set forth in the Teaching and traditional ones? The main difference is that the Teaching considers the emerging child as an established individuality, already having experience of past lives and their spiritual accumulation. Therefore, upbringing is a continuation of the process of spiritual evolution of man, but not his beginning, as the earthly pedagogical science has believed so far. This is a fundamental difference between the approaches. Let's see what Living Ethics says about children, and start with the period when the child was not born yet.

1. The sense of love that binds parents together is of great importance for the birth of a new life. People need to understand the divinity of love in its highest manifestation and also look for its reflection here on Earth. And, of course, even the offspring themselves, as the fruit of love, will be much higher than the offspring of accidental intercourse. Therefore, marriage only for the sake of the offspring is an ugly and blasphemous phenomenon. (P., 1, P. 376)

When does the incarnation take place? The doctrine says it this way: The spirit is connected to the fetus at the moment of its birth. It begins in the fourth month when the first nerve and brain channels are formed. The establishment of the spine creates the next stage of mastery. (P., P., P. 174)

Therefore, abortion should be regarded as murder. It is not difficult to imagine how much suffering the spirit, ready for incarnation, brings to the spirit, the violent suppression of his already started life, or even the prevention of the birth of the spirit attracted by karma. What a hard karma the ignorant and criminal parents prepare themselves by destroying the fetus! (PARA. 1, PP. 174-175)

2. The individual characteristics of the child are already evident during pregnancy and are reflected in the behavior of women during this period.

The nature of the future human being is already indicated in the womb. We can already observe some features that predetermine the nature of the desire of the mother herself. (A., 552) On the simplest examples, one can see indications of forgotten foundations. The incomprehensible whims of pregnant women will remind us of reincarnation, especially if we trace the nature of the child. (Br., 177)

3. During this period it is especially important that the woman is in a calm, harmonious and balanced state, but for this she needs to direct her consciousness and thoughts to the sublime and beautiful. This aspiration of the mother will also create the necessary protection of her nascent life from dark attacks.

Reasoning of mothers provides for occult conditions at the birth of a child. The mother's spirit knows how the enemy tries to harm a new traveler. It is easier to send poison during the transition time of birth. It is easy to multiply the anger of the mother and fill the house with discontent. Wisely, mothers try to look at the faces of saints or comfort themselves in the face of nature. (Z., 1-VI-8)
Blessed is the mother who opened the canopy to the Light and brought the first flower. In silence and with a smile, and in beauty wait for new, knocking in the world. (З., 19.III.1923)

4. Nature has envisaged a gradual process of adaptation of the born child to the conditions of dense peace. Wisely, the newborn's condition is when it can gradually accept the earthly hardships. More than one seven-year period is required to master the earthly existence. Therefore, it is necessary to protect the phenomenon of children so carefully. (M.O., 1, 338)

This process is cyclical, with each new seven-year cycle completing a certain stage of mastering matter.

5. The peculiarity of the first seven years of a child's life is that he or she lives in two worlds simultaneously. Many children under seven years of age see images of the thin world, at the age of three to five years they can remember their past incarnation and stay in the thin world. “Many children who remember their past are in vain surprised. It is now that many of these apparent mediators with the Thin World are emerging. They also remember being in the midst of earthly lives, but they are not able to be questioned. It is not that they remember buried money, but they can tell us about valuable feelings. This is how the two worlds come together and this circumstance precedes the great events...” (M.O. 3:542)

6. Living Ethics speaks about some peculiarities of children's development and behavior during this period, which are often accepted by parents and doctors as diseases. Even attempts are made to treat them, which often leads to disastrous consequences. Therefore, it is so important to be aware of these characteristics and to treat them correctly. Children remember a lot, especially at an early age, from their.

Of the previous incarnations. This explains some oddity in their behavior and aspirations, which often do not correspond to their environment.
