Synonymous with trout fishing in the stream, this technique arises from the need to undermine this Salmonid in its natural habitat.
The first impact is not easy to imagine to be able to make an effective fishing action along the steep mountain rivers, characterized by rapid winding and the seabed, and the rough, for this is born the need to adopt this technique: fishing tap will allow us (with a little practice) to get into fishing in these waterways inaccessible to avoid unpleasant doubtful and ingarbugliamenti.
If properly carried out this technique will also allow us to present the bait in a very natural way, as a normal prey carried by the current.
What do we need?
As you may have guessed, Touch Fishing is a movement fishing, we will have to move continuously along the course of the stream in search of trout in every possible so much. For this purpose we will have to equip ourselves with an adequate equipment that allows us to move easily along the banks, often difficult to handle, and to test every hole, scrape or current in search of salmonid.
So let's see what will definitely not be missing:
- The weeders or thigh boots, which will allow us to make Fords and keep us safe from snakes that can nest in the rocks.
- Hunting jacket, which will allow us to transport our equipment very quickly, as well as to always have at hand indispensable items such as pliers and scissors.
- The holders, useful to have at hand our baits immediately ready to trigger.
- The portatrote, useful in case, in decision to retain a Salmonid, will allow us to transport it without difficulty along our fishing.
- The pliers, useful to crush the sinkers on the fishing line and sometimes to help us slamming the fish.
- Scissors, line cutting and whatnot.
- Essential parts such as swivels, piombino, olivette, floats, bulbs, thread markers, lines, hooks, etc..
- Last but perhaps most important the barrel: we can choose to use different types according to the stream we are going to face. Undoubtedly the teleregulabile, goes for the greater, because of its wide range of use. In fact, it can be opened at will, at different lengths in order to allow us to “lay” the bait at the point we wanted regardless of the width of the stream.
In the event that it happens to face small streams with regular width our choice can be based on a normal bolognese, which will allow us to make some launches (something absolutely to avoid with the teleregolabile). Finally, for the more traditionalists, even the fixed rod can be used for fishing to the touch, although obviously with some limits, including the impossibility of facing the trout with the help of the reel.
Fish
Let us now look at the different species and their habits.
Brown Trout
Typical of European countries, it is the Queen of mountain streams. Able to live in very little water (provided clean and oxygenated), this species hardly reaches considerable dimensions (Max 40cm in particular cases). By habit, the lighthouse uses to station counter-current, behind submerged objects such as boulders and Woods, waiting for the prey carried by the current such as earthworms, insect larvae etc.. Compared to other types of Trout, the beak turns out to be more” lazy": it will hardly move away from the hunting post.
The best way to undermine this Salmonid is therefore to lean the Mount upstream from a possible den and let the current carry the bait near the Queen.
Rainbow Trout
Imported from the United States, the Iris is easily recognizable due to the typical side pink stripe (from which it takes the original name rainbow trout literally rainbow trout).
Usually it is the one that is inserted during the pre-opening seedlings, as a result we can find it in different environments from the creek to the river to the lake. Unlike lighthouses, the Iris uses constantly moving in search of food. The fishing action then plans to launch downstream and recover slowly against the current to rotate the bait, or, as for the lighthouse, to bring down the bait carried by the current.
Marbled Trout
Easily recognizable by the typical marbled livery, this Trout is now limited only diffused in certain alpine or prealpine areas, often in streams with wide flow or in some cases in the rivers of the valley floor. As the Iris in some cases can reach considerable dimensions, even in special cases up to 80cm and above. Due precisely to the remarkable size it loves to stay in deeper waters than the “cousins” but does not disdain hunting actions even in lower water.
Char
It is a kind of import, which can be of 2 kinds: Alpine and source, both imported. It will often happen to allamare some hybrid, crossed perhaps with the brown trout, species very similar also in the habits.
Technique
As for the technique we will choose our descent based on the flow rate of the stream and the composition of the seabed.
In “normal " fishing conditions, that is, with regular water flow and seabed, the most classic frame is undoubtedly the Classic crown of pellets:
This frame will allow us to keep our bait near the bottom, where the trout uses to stand in wait for prey.
In case, however, due to recent rains, the level of the stream has increased, a sliding ball lead will be able to suit our case:
- Of course the weight will be chosen based on the strength of the current. The presentation of the bait will however be less natural than the crown.
- Due to the "variegated" composition of the streams we will often come across stretches with numerous submerged obstacles: in this case we can opt for the use of Olivette from mantagna:
- This simple frame will allow us to reduce the Struts. Obviously the presentation of the bait will turn out to be less natural than the crown.
Another always useful alternative to avoid stings is the pendolino:
Or the soft lead wire spiral:
N. B. in some circumstances it will be useful to keep the frame raised with a float, for example in the holes where the current is very limited.
There are also some alternative frames compared to the classic Touch Fishing.
For example temolino, a lead stuck in a rubber tube, very useful always in case of risk of stranding. This technique also allows you to make a fairly natural presentation of the bait.
Then there is the classic camolera usually formed by max 3nymphs.
NB: temolino and camolera techniques are prohibited in some regions.
Bait
In this type of fishing we can choose from several types of bait:
- Earthworm: easily found by digging in the ground or in shops for fishing. Particularly suitable is the one from water, able to survive a long time in water increasing the attractiveness. It is recommended the use of forged hook Crooked bronzed.
I recommend using a needle from worms.
- Honey Camola: available at bee nests (not recommended unless you are experienced) or at fishing shops. They are usually primed 2 heads on Golden hook.
- Cat: can be found in small watercourses free of pollution by moving the submerged stones or in the immediate proximity of the banks. Trigger on bronzed hook.
- larva of stone holders: available under the submerged stones in small watercourses free of pollution. It is the larva of the common mosquito, and is very useful for apathetic fish. Primed on small silver hooks.
- rubber imitations of the baits mentioned above
- salmon roe: available in shops for fishing, must be primed on hooks of suitable size according to the size of the eggs
- Trout-specific sugar: available in shops for fishing, must be primed on hooks of suitable size according to the size of the sugar.
