To understand the astrological point of view, a good way is to pick out some of its declarations and then make a skeptical and pleasant study of their logical conclusions. Here are 10 questions I like most about proponents of astrology.
1. What is the probability that 1/12 of the world's population will have the same luck on a certain day?
Proponents of the constellation column in the newspaper (there are 1,200 daily newspapers in the United States) claim that you can know the fortune of the day by reading a paragraph in the 12 paragraphs of a morning paper. We know by doing a simple division, which means that more than 500 million people around the world will have the same luck on a certain day, and every day. To predict the good or bad of so many people at once, the constellation column obviously can only use the vaguest and general language.
2. Why is the time of birth so important in astrology, not the time of conception?
The reason why astrology is scientific in some people is that a person's astrology depends on a specific number - the birth time of that person. When astrology came out a long time ago, the ancients believed that the moment when a person was born was also a magical moment to create his life. But today we already know that birth is just the result of the fetus's continuous development in the womb for 9 months. Not only that but scientists now also believe that many aspects of a child's personality are determined before birth.
However, I doubt that the reason why astrologers insist on adopting birth time has little to do with astrology theory: most of the guests know their birthday, but it is difficult to determine their own pregnancy (maybe caused by embarrassment). In order to make their predictions tailor-made, the astrologer insisted on using the date that was easier to determine.
3. If the mother's womb can isolate the influence of the constellation before the child is born, can the child be surrounded by a circle of beef, can it also have the same effect?
If the celestial body can really emit such powerful power, why is it blocked by a thin layer of muscle and skin before the person is born? If it can really stop, and the child's astrology is not ideal enough, then we can use a thin strip of beef to surround him immediately after the birth of the child, in order to isolate the influence of the celestial body until his astrological change Have you been more gleeful?
. If the astrologers are as effective as they claim, why haven’t they made a fortune?
Some astrologers will say that they are not predicting specific events, but rather general trends. Others say that their ability can predict major events, and small ones will not work. But in any case, astrologers should be able to anticipate the general market of stocks or futures, and earn billions of dollars, without having to ask the guests to charge high fees. However, how many astrologers have seen the upcoming stock market and property market decline, and warned the guests?
There is also a real application of astrology to the stock market. This “discipline” is called Financial Astrology, but I don’t know what the astrologers’ wealth is.
5. Are all the astrology wrong before the two outermost planets of the solar system are discovered?
Some astrologers claim that the sun sign used by most newspaper constellation columns (that is, the position of the sun on the ecliptic when someone was born) is not precise enough to show the effects of the universe. These “serious” astrologers insist that the influence of all important celestial bodies in the solar system should be considered, including the two outermost planets of the solar system—the Uranus discovered in 1781 and the Neptune discovered in 1846.
If this is the case, then what many astrologers have said, their skills have accurately predicted the future in the past few hundred years, and what should be explained? Could it be said that all the astrological predictions before 1846 were wrong? If so, why did the early astrologers not predict the existence of Uranus and Neptune before the astronomers?
6. Isn't astrology a prejudice that should be condemned?
In a civilized society, we condemn all systems that judge people under the premature factors of gender, color, religion, ethnicity, and other births. The astrologer is self-satisfied to judge the person based on another accidental factor—the position of the celestial body at the time the person was born. Is it not as bad as refusing to date Leo and refusing to hire Virgo, compared to refusing to date a Catholic and refusing to hire a black person?
