Chapter Two
Somewhere in the distance, the clock was ticking. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Time was back to normal, although no one was able to get out of the numbness.
He was the first to find the gift of the Snake's speech. The skinny little guy whose black hair was falling on his eyes, covering his eternally evil hair, got up off the icy floor. He pulled the paper away from him like a dead mouse. The serpent came to the door with a shadow of a snake and, having already opened it, he suddenly snapped:
- I want to express my point of view. Besides us, there is a certain lion that threatens us. Why do we need him? I even know the answer! - The serpent looked fiercely at all those present. - No one in their right mind will ever, so to speak, ever think of stealing what belongs to us. If not a man, then who? That's right - demons ...
- Shut your mouth! - The Cat abruptly interrupted him. - None of us will ever do business with them!
The serpent laughed gladly. First, quietly, and then his terrible laughter spread like thunder all over the house.
- And I don't blame anyone! But maybe the demons clouded someone's mind? Maybe one of us writes threats and doesn't know it himself? Take, for example, the Pigeon. Maybe she writes this nonsense by order of her amulet and then forgets.
- That is, I do it? - The pigeon scared outraged, throwing itself behind the cat's back again. The girl's blue eyes widened with genuine horror.
- The jerk said "for example," the owner of the red amulet hurried to calm her friend down. Then, angry at the stupid theorist, she started hissing: "How nasty it is even from your side to blame one of us! Why did you even think that?!
The snake did not find an answer. He just shrugged his shoulders and proudly walked out of the room. Finally, he slammed the door shut with a loud crackle.
After a brief quarrel, the room plunged back into gloomy despair. The only thing that kept life going was the dying fire in the fireplace. The dove cried quietly, sitting in a far corner so that no one could see it. The cat, clenched and unclenched its fists, rushed around the room and shouted curses at the Snake in her mind. The dog crossed his legs and plunged himself into his thoughts without noticing anything around him.
======== How it all started ==========
To think that a soft crib in the early morning is stronger than any magnet. Well, at least that's what Alice thought. Warm down blanket, thick pillow filled with all kinds of colored feathers ... But always this coziness and peace interrupts the alarm clock ringing, which tells us that we should go to school.
Alice wrapped herself in a blanket and decided to go back to the dream world. The traitor-alarm clock hasn't rang yet, and therefore there is some time to take a nap. A minute, ten minutes, it seems, has passed the whole hour, and there was no ringing yet.
The girl looked out the window. The sun was already shining in the sky, and the birds woke up long ago and sang in their pleasure.
- It's very strange,- Alice sleepily yawned, yet decided to look at her watch.
At first, there was a blurry picture in front of her eyes, but after a little help, the girl saw the time...
- Nine hours with something! - suddenly she screamed, jumping out of bed. - How did I manage to sleep? Why didn't the alarm clock ring? My teacher will kill me!
When Alice flew up to the closet, she scattered all her clothes looking for a school uniform. She searched the whole wardrobe, but the uniform was never found. All sorts of dresses, sundresses, summer hats, skirts, jackets ... But for some reason, there is no such school uniform!
Feeling that the nerves will be at their limit now, Alice took a couple of deep breaths, trying to assess the situation soberly.
"I remember I put my uniform on the back of my chair! - suddenly it hit the heroine. Indeed, that's where the uniform was lying. Alice wore it lightning-fast, ran out of her room with a briefcase and rushed to the exit of the apartment.
- Good morning,- Mom smiled when she saw her daughter, "did you go somewhere?
- Mom!" Alice shouted. - Why didn't you wake me up? I'm late for school!
- But it's also Sunday,- Mom replied in surprise.
Alice immediately froze on the spot. One second lasted like a minute... It seemed like an eternity. She thought it was Monday, but it was Sunday! It means that you can sleep all day. With this joyful thought, Alice rushed to her room.
- Well, since you're such an early bird,- Mom giggled, "you can go shopping.
- Well, Mom," Alice held out, feeling the weight in my legs, "I want to sleep...
- But you fled into the street a couple of seconds ago,- said Alice's older sister, Katya, who had long since woken up and helped her to wash the dishes. - Since I confused everyday life with the weekend, at least go to the store to show us that you woke up for a reason.
