- The wasteland (Pustina) is a small settlement on the border with Poland. Miner's town, which is about to be bought by a large corporation to expand coal mining. The Mayor of the Badlands, Nana Sikorova, is trying hard to keep the deposit in the hands of local miners and proposes to vote "for" or "against" the sale of land.
Alas, it remained in the minority. The villagers are dreaming of selling their plots and moving to more "joyous" places.
As they say, the trouble does not come alone. In addition to the failure of the "referendum", the mayor has lost his eldest daughter. She was going to visit her father after school, and... she never showed up at her father's or home.
Local cops are organizing a search, but the girl seems to have dissolved into the vast wasteland.
I'll start with the fact that a couple of times the series was caught in front of my eyes on the Internet. However, despite the high rating, I was wildly embarrassed by the country-producer - the Czech Republic.
And even when one of my subscribers "strongly recommended" - look for sure - I listened, but did not have any illusions.
What was my surprise, when the first series flashed unnoticed, the second series was replaced by the third, third ... fifth, and then, once, and the final. I actually lost track of time.
I'm not trying to define the genre of the show. Here, in one wild dance "spinning" everything: Survival and life of the inhabitants of a small town, which is on the verge of extinction, unscrupulous behavior of representatives of the corporation, who do not care about the "little people", if in front of the fantastic profits are looming, the police are looking for a girl, the mother goes mad with anxiety for her daughter; At the same time, she (the mayor after all) tries to persuade her fellow citizens not to act recklessly and not to go on about false promises and empty promises; the father of the missing girl begins to search for her daughter on his own, rather than terribly hindering the police and madly pissing off all the townspeople...
To confess, the creators are clearly too depressed.
Such hopelessness blows from the series - from the heroes, the events surrounding the landscape - just tiniest. This presses and, at some point, you yourself are all in "minor", why the story on the screen becomes so vital and plausible that you wonder why there is no insertion in the beginning of each series - "the series is based on real events.
Among the directors, writers, actors, I have not found any familiar names. Such a feeling that people close to the cinema gathered and, from nothing to do, gave out "on a mountain" eight-serial very high quality series, in the best traditions of the Scandinavian noir detective ... only without snow). Tight, sometimes long storytelling, difficult fate of the main characters, village secrets, secrets, skeletons, the consequence is its turn, dull nature catch up with yearning and serves as an excellent backdrop for the search for the missing girl. Everything as Scandinavians love).
Yes, the series of 16 years, but I do not think that the interpreters behind it in line. Thank you to those who found this diamond, voiced it and we have the opportunity to appreciate the Wasteland!
I advise (or strongly recommend) the series only to fans of slow Scandinavian detectives - you guys will appreciate it. The rest of you, I'm afraid, even the first episode can't do it).

2.Wisting - On Christmas Eve, a corpse was found in a small Norwegian town in a tree nursery. The body has been in the snow for a long time and the victim can only be identified by a DNA test. The head of the local police, William Whisting, takes over the case.
Around the same time, his daughter Lina decided to write an article for the newspaper about the death of Viggo Hansen. He died in his house, alone in front of the TV set, and his body was accidentally discovered by his neighbors a few months later.
Dad is working on a murder, daughter on an article.
After a while, the Oslo Police Headquarters suddenly issued an order for the case of the "unidentified corpse from the nursery" to be joined by FBI agents.
On arrival, FBI agents "revealed the cards" - the corpse under the tree, directly linked to a serial maniac, who for twenty years in vain is trying to catch the police around the world.
The series Whisting is based on two novels by the famous Norwegian writer Jörn Lier Horst "The Caveman" and "The Hounds of the Dogs" (not read).
Where do I start?
From the usual. The plot of the detective develops in the "familiar to the painful" scenery. A small town on the edge of geography, where live extremely strange characters. In this town, everyone knows everything about each other, but sharing "knowledge" with the police and journalists are not in a hurry. Winter is in full swing, which means that the screen is "frosty and sunny; it's a wonderful day!
What else did the Norwegians remain loyal to themselves? The one who is guilty of triumph. The police catch not just a serial killer (as all normal Europeans), but a mathematical maniac with a capital letter M. No wonder the FBI sent them.
I understand Jorn Horst - one thing to write novels with a view of the azure sea, and another - looking at the eternal night, in a country where even in the summer you need a "summer down coat" ... willy-nilly you will start to kill in droves).
So what's the difference between Whisting and "brothers"? Police officers. I, frankly, tired of "freak investigators", who pull a good half of the viewer's attention to themselves. And William Whisting is a normal, sane, colorful guy without any hits and bumps. As well as FBI agents. Both are organized, smart and know their business. By the way, one of the FBI agents is played by Carrie-Anne Moss - Trinity of the Matrix. Well played, enthusiastically.
True, it wasn't without a fool's assistant, but it's an assistant... the way will be).
The detective component...you know, delays. Norwegians tried to minimize the personal life of detectives, and nothing distracts you from catching a mega-maniac.
Whisting turned out to be a solid, gazing, sometimes intriguing series, without wow-effect. And what did you want? Not everything that the Scandinavians produce should be rated "excellent". A fresh, European detective with a "good" rating, for me personally also very good.
