Bottom fishing for beginners

Оглавление

Deep-sea fishing is a natural consequence for those who have already fished with the float rod. With this, in fact, there is the problem of the shallow depth to which we can get our bait: with floating slides you get to the maximum on 10-15 meters, but in Still Water. If there is a current, you are forced to stay closer to the surface. How to get around the problem? Simple, just change technique! And this is the best technique to get to the big holes, where the largest fish hide.

What it takes

On this site I have already talked about the “base " frames for deep fishing, and there are also two articles about derived techniques (catfishing and carpfishing).

In general, for medium-heavy economic equipment (able to make us face even carp and Pike of good size) we need:

  • A robust bottom rod (if you think about going to carp, I recommend a rod for carpfishing): if you can not find, ask for a light surfcasting rod, for reel fixed reel (it is a derivative technique, those that I indicate throw on 100 grams at most). Starting from small fish with oversized equipment, you will avoid doing damage and getting hurt. To start, as a launch power I recommend something that pulls at most between 60 and 90 grams (if you find good at 30 euros). Sic rings and carbon offer advantages, but you can also get started on cheaper materials. Telescopic or two, three pieces? You see, a two-piece has a better action, but also a considerable footprint; if you have transport problems, better a telescopic.
  • A reel: it is not important that it is fast or has many bearings, but that it is so big that it holds enough thread and that it is reliable: it would be big problems if it froze during the fight with a big fish! Returning to the above example, I would recommend one that holds 200 meters of 0.35 or 0.40. The baitrunner can be useful (it is a device formed by an additional clutch, which leaves the coil free during the departure of the fish and allows a quick ferrata under these conditions).
  • Thread: to start, better a good nylon (also because cheap rods often do not have sic rings for which braids can not be used). We will often have to deal with fish of good size, and we will be in the midst of obstacles of all kinds: therefore it is better to make few moral problems. At a minimum we use a 0.35, I recommend a 0.40. Recommended Products, Berkley Trilene Big Game( great for all challenging techniques), Zebco Topic carp (incredible abrasion resistance and excellent reliability), Take Extreme (excellent tensile strength). For terminals, or a nylon with a smaller diameter and seal, or 12-pound dacron.
  • Accessories: sturdy hooks from 4 to 2, with some 2/0 mounted on kevlar or steel (if you go to Pike), sinkers (with the barrel taken as a reference, between 40 and 80 grams), swivels with strong carabiner, rubber ball (to be put between the lead and the knot of the swivel). As usual, slamerator, scissor, landing net and a rag. Given the size of the fish, I highly recommend the use of a mat for slamatura type those from carpfishing: they are excellent and will allow us to treat our catches well before release.
  • (By the way, here I renew the invitation present on many pages: everything you do not eat, release it. Especially now rare species such as Tench and Pike, but also carp, or crucian carp and torpedoes, even if for the latter it would be prohibited. There's no point in killing for fun, actually.)
  • As bite detectors, if we do not want to look at the cimino, there are the classic bells, the signal stopper (present on this site) or the modern electronic detectors. We can use the piers to place the rod, or the most modern (and expensive) rod pods. A chair can be useful for waiting.
  • If instead you only have real perch, some trout on the kilo at most, fish, small bass, crucian carp and fish at most from two kilos, then I suggest you scale the whole. The power of the barrel can be limited to 40, 50 grams at most; the holding of the reel to 150 meters of 0.25 or 0.30. The wire can be chosen between these two diameters, terminals or 0.20 or 0.25, or in 6-pound dacron.

How do you fish?

We mount our Rod, trigger the bait and throw. As bait are excellent corn, earthworm, live fish or pieces of fish, even Sardinian, depending on what we seek. We put the barrel steady, either on the pod or on the piers, and after a few seconds it stabilizes we put the wire in tension. We insert our bite signal (if it is the bell on the cimino it must be put before the launch, fixing it well to prevent it from flying in the water during the launch).

At this point we wait for the bite. When we see the cimino bend and jump, or our signal that sounds or moves, we iron and start to recover the fish. At this stage it is very important to be careful, because often it is medium or small fish, even if from time to time they attack respectable fish. When the fish is near the shore be careful, because it's the time when it's easier to break the wire. Keep the clutch a little open so you don't lose the fish if it starts again, and when it's tired, let it in the landing net. If it is of good size do not try to lift the landing net like a shovel, but pull it towards you as if it were a rope, holding it vertically.

At this point put the fish on the mat and slam it. If you want to photograph it, then put it back in the water gently and let it go home.

Some final tips for beginners

As usual, if you do not have much experience, start with small fish in very quiet and simple environments (do not start looking, to say, immense carp from a Prismata of the Po). The ideal as usual are the carasses of ponds, canals and ditches, or catfish (unfortunately in my parts almost extinct).

This technique requires patience and constancy, it is not uncommon to “make coat” and go home without even seeing a eaten. However it is very relaxing, and catching, though small, is fun. It is also the basis for many other techniques, including carpfishing, ledgering and catfishing. Now you just have to put it into practice, and have fun!
