Short comment |Pyre: beautiful political fairy tale

Playing this game requires a certain degree of English. The word is not particularly difficult, but the sentence structure is used by the author to compare the "old style", and there is no small resistance for those who read less English novels. However, the person who is responsible for the script in Supergiant Games is graduated from the English Department of UC Berkeley, Columbia University and other famous schools. When I first came into contact with this game, I felt that it was "God". The 3000-word comment was not enough to write. After the end, I only commented on the following three sentences (on the one hand, if I want to touch the narrative theme, it is hard not to be thunderous): Since playing "Planetscape: Torment" since childhood, I have tried to avoid games that require a lot of reading. It is not because you don't like reading, but to recognize that seeking good texts and even literary experiences in the game is a very low-efficiency thing. It is better to concentrate

After the end, I only commented on the following three sentences (on the one hand, if I want to touch the narrative theme, it is hard not to be thunderous):

  • The narrative is very popular with the style of “Pu Yu Zhi Shu”: the grand opening structure, the confusing character shape, and finally ending with a small topic. People who have read "MONSTER" and "21st Century Boys" should not be difficult to understand.
  • In the beginning, the core gameplay of the game was the one that distracted me and got bored; in the second half, this gameplay became the only thing that made me awake.
  • The only thing that can be loved from beginning to end is the enthusiasm at the presentation level: the F12 key (Steam screenshot) is beautifully hand-painted, rich stereoscopic dubbing, super-classical soundtrack, meticulous and loyal to the world view. Imaging effects.

Since playing "Planetscape: Torment" since childhood, I have tried to avoid games that require a lot of reading. It is not because you don't like reading, but to recognize that seeking good texts and even literary experiences in the game is a very low-efficiency thing. It is better to concentrate on reading a few books.

The narrative of "Pyre" contains many metaphors and discussions about the "American founding spirit", but the criticism is weak because the core spirit is centered on "merciful". It is good or bad, but it does weaken some tension.

Another layer of focus on "compassion for compassion" is to enhance the core experience of narrative-type games through the sense of substitution between players and characters: "choice." The more you feel about the role, the more you value each choice. It is a pity that the role of "Pyre" is quite awkward, and the consequences of most choices are also optional.

One of the reviews from Steam:

An extremely enjoyable experience for me. Maybe the game is not for everyone (and I will explain why), but here are a few reasons why I really liked this game:
• a non-linear narrative about the struggle against what a dogmatic, repressive society hints at;
• a well-written dialogue with a very interesting set of characters;
• beautiful art style and music;
• very interesting and original mixture of a sports game and a visual novel mixed with some light RPG mechanics;
• a few endings (really serious about it, lol!);
• failures are included in the arch of history, therefore, in fact, it occurs regardless of the decisions you make, and each time, of course, with different results;
• reproducibility due to the complexity of True Nightwing (which I will try in the future) and the aforementioned nonlinear history

During the play, I kept thinking about the words that Greg Kasavin, the creative director of Supergiant Games, said in the Kotaku interview. I translated and reorganized as follows, so I can end the article.

"Pyre" is a game that pays great attention to the plot, so it is not suitable for players who don't like reading and RPG experience. I think there is a serious misunderstanding at the moment that successful games must have universal appeal. We (Supergiant Games) don't care much about why players don't like our games; what we do is to make sure that when players are interested in our games, they have enough ability to convince players that it is a good thing.

Perhaps the real thing that keeps Pyre in my heart is not the work itself, but the development concept behind it.
