Kawasaki ZX-10R 2016 Overview.Part1

The list of changes includes:

  • - Updated engine with a new cylinder head, titanium exhaust system, electronic throttle valves, and lighter interiors.
  • - New electronics: inertia measuring unit, traction control, launch control, ABS, engine brake control system and Quick-Shifter.
  • - Updated frame and pendulum
  • - New Showa gas suspension on gas shock absorbers
  • - Ohlins electronic rudder damper
  • - Brembo brake system

Engine

The ZX-10R engine has undergone significant modifications. The inlet channels of the cylinder head have been angled to create a more straightforward path for the mixture entering the combustion chamber, which has also been modified to improve combustion efficiency. The exhaust ducts are polished and made straighter and wider. Titanium outlet valves have been increased in diameter by 1.1 mm to 25.5 mm. Inlet valves are also made of titanium. The cam profile of the camshaft has been changed to increase power in the upper speed range.

The shape of the combustion chamber is optimized to improve filling and exhaust gas recovery. The height of the pistons has been reduced from 39.2 to 37.7 mm, they are lighter by 5 grams each and have a new top surface shape.

The new electronic throttle valves in the ZX-10R engine, according to the engineers, ensure perfect filling of the cylinders, maximum power output and, at the same time, reduce harmful emissions to Euro-4 standards. It is also said that this technology allows for more accurate traction control and its implementation made it possible to apply new systems of launch control and engine braking control.

The moment of inertia of the crankshaft has been reduced by 20%, which means that it requires less energy for both promotion and deceleration. According to Kawasaki, the upgraded crankshaft is one of the significant changes that came from the feedback from their World Superbike racing team. It's in racing that the ability of a motorcycle to slow down and accelerate as quickly as possible when cornering is more important than ever before.

Other engine changes include thicker cylinder walls, improved cooling and increased airbox capacity.

The exhaust system also includes titanium exhaust pipes and an increased volume of titanium muffler, which is lighter and more elegant.

In the gearbox, the second to sixth gears of the gearbox have become closer together, which will improve the dynamics in the middle range of revolutions and increase the stability when shifting down. Some gears in the gearbox are coated with dry lubricant film to reduce friction.

Transmission is executed under the "cartridge" scheme, thus the arrangement of transmission shafts and gear wheels is high enough and change of transmission numbers can be made without necessity to drain oil.

Electronics

The Kawasaki ZX-10R electronic stuffing was created with a view to what is already being used on motorcycles such as the Yamaha R1 and Ducati 1299 Panigale S. In addition to the new 32-bit ECU, the motorcycle is equipped with a Bosch inertial measuring unit (IMU) with its own Kawasaki stitching, which allows the motorcycle to be evaluated on six axes of motion. The IMU informs other electronic motorcycle systems, such as traction control and ABS, of the data required for their operation and receives feedback from them.
