At the motor show Intermot-2016, Suzuki finally showed the world the final samples of new 'jixer', which in the form of prototypes have been walking on the Internet for a long time.

The basic model is traditionally called Suzuki GSX-R1000, and the limited, even more, sporty version is GSX-R1000R. Releasing the new generation, Suzuki sets itself only one goal - to return the crown in the class of liter sports bikes.

Key information:

Completely new engine and chassis 199.27 hp power and 202 kg weight Inertial measuring unit Tilt-sensitive 10-step traction control Several driving modes.

Suzuki states that it is the most powerful and dynamic GSX-R ever made. At the same time, it is the most compact, aerodynamic and controllable, with a smooth response to the gas handle and the best energy efficiency of the engine.

Engine

The GSX-R1000 engine has a working volume of 999.8 cm3, a power of 199.27 hp and a torque of 117 Nm. The goal of the designers was to increase maximum power without compromising the low and medium speed ranges, increase controllability with the new electronic units, and emphasize durability and reliability. In addition, the engine has become more compact: 6.6 mm shorter and 22.3 mm shorter, and is located with a large 6-degree tilt back, which has a positive impact on the weight and steering of the motorcycle in corners. The degree of compression increased from 12.9:1 to 13.2:1. The diameter of the cylinder has changed from 74.5 to 76 mm, and the piston stroke has decreased from 57.3 to 55.1 mm. The 'Red line' of maximum revolutions increased by 1000 rpm to 14500 rpm.

The growth of revolutions was also achieved due to the fundamentally new valve mechanism, the valves themselves and the new configuration of the camshaft.

The new 'Jixer' uses a system called Suzuki 'Broad Power System' or 'Wide Power System', which is the result of technologies originally developed for the MotoGP, such as variable valve timing, fingertip valve pusher system, 'ride-by-wire' throttle valve control and valves in the exhaust pipe (the so-called Suzuki Exhaust Tuning Alpha). The power supply system has downstream butterfly valve housings which are 19 mm shorter and increased from 44 mm to 46 mm in diameter. The air filter has increased capacity. All this in a complex has allowed us to lift the maximum capacity and to avoid a failure on the bottom and in the middle.

Electronics

As expected, the new GSX-R1000 is packed with all sorts of electronic systems that help the driver to realize the full energy potential of the motorcycle. A kind of brain of all electronics is the inertial measuring unit (IMU), the data from which are used and the 10-stage traction control Motion Track TCS and brake system ABS. The bike also uses the Suzuki's Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS), which allows the driver to switch between different engine management modes. There are three modes - A, B and C. A - sports mode for racing track or dry winding roads, B - normal mode for track and highway, and C - for urban daily driving and wet roads. The GSX-R1000R version is additionally equipped with a quick shifter, which allows you to switch up and down without clutch, as well as start control.

The engine is started via the Suzuki's Easy Start system at the touch of a button, which additionally controls the engine at idling and low revs.

All of the above electronic arsenals are controlled and the current information about its operation is displayed on the new large LCD display, which shows all the data that can be imagined.

The chassis and housing

The chassis and body of the motorcycle are completely new, lighter and more compact than the previous generation. The wheelbase is 1425 mm (increased by 20 mm), and the curb weight is reduced by 3 kg to 202 kg. The frame is lightened by 10% and at the widest point is already 20 mm than its predecessor. The frame has lost 1 kg in weight. The pendulum is also new and has increased rigidity.

The steering is equipped with an electronically controlled steering damper. The suspension is based on Showa components: front fork Showa Big Piston (and in version R - Showa Balance Free). The GSX-R1000R has a progressive rear shock absorber and the GSX-R1000R has a lightweight Showa BFRC (Balance Free Rear Cushion) that isolates the damping control from uneven pressure, allowing riders to feel the bike more subtly.

Brembo brake system with 320 mm diameter discs at the front and 220 mm diameter discs at the back with single-piston caliper Nissin. The brakes are set in such a way that they prevent the rear wheel from being pulled up when braking abruptly. In addition, the R version is equipped with an ABS corner system. The wheels are light-alloy aluminum with six spokes and are equipped with Bridgestone RS10 rubber from the factory.

In the front cowl is a new LED headlight and dimensions, located above the new air intakes. The taillights and direction indicators are also completely LED.

The new GSX-R1000 still looks the same as the recognizable pedigree 'jixer' - engineers have been able to preserve the family design features for decades. At the same time, it always meets the latest requirements of aerodynamics and trends in motorcycle fashion.
