1. Do not overestimate your physical abilities and do not exceed reasonable limits.
If before you have never made motorcycle trips with mileage of more than 450-500 km a day, then it is unlikely that in your upcoming trip you should plan to overcome, say, 800 km every day.
By results of researches here what changes usually occur in the schedule of motor travelers who couldn't estimate correctly the forces: irrespective of influence of weather conditions or other adverse factors, average daily run starts to fall already on the third day of travel. In the first two days it is maximum, but in the period from 3 to 7 days there is a steady tendency to slow down the average daily speed. It is noticed that the average motorcyclist's mileage on the seventh day of the long journey usually does not exceed 65% of the planned daily mileage. Summary: If long-range professionals are trying to calculate their trips according to this scheme, should they try to deceive themselves and thereby provoke an accident caused by accumulated fatigue?
If possible, you can reduce your route ("cut" part of the way) in order to catch up with the time lag. This option is more advantageous than trying to get back on schedule by increasing speed.
Regardless of whether you are able to travel 500 or 1500 km per day, this figure will be greatly reduced as the length of the total distance and the number of days on the road increase. This should be taken into account when planning your journey.
2. Forget about high speeds.
Forget about purely mathematical calculations. In this case, higher speed does not mean that you will arrive at your destination faster. Instantaneous and average speeds are not closely related. A calm motorcyclist can count down kilometres one after the other without stress, admire the scenery that opens up in front of him, and eventually covers longer distances in a day with less physical loss than a rider who tries to overtake everyone and show a better time on the stretch. In addition to the obvious inconveniences of this driving style: increased fuel consumption, accumulated muscle fatigue (caused by a stronger oncoming air flow), the opportunity to be fined for speeding. It is better to drive this distance at a lower speed and admire the surroundings, than to drive "to the fullest" and spend the time on the proceedings with the traffic policeman.
3. Leave coffee and stimulating pills at home.
Well, it's simple: the use of medications aimed at keeping the body awake and other stimulant pills (coffee and coke of all kinds are also included in this list) is not justified. If you feel very tired, it is better to find a suitable place and sleep well. It is better not to consider other options.
4. Prepare your bike for the ride.
Time runs so fast on vacation, why waste it on the side of the road, swallowing roadside dust, trying to find or replace worn-out parts? Most often it is justified to replace, for example, tires or chain in advance than to squeeze out the last kilometers to the nearest car repair shop just to make sure that you do not get help here. Good quality engine oil allows you to extend the interval between changes. In addition, it should be noted that the properties of the oils do not deteriorate as much as in the case of daily shots fired through city streets or long-term winter parking. Many motorcyclists change oil only after 15-16 thousand kilometers of highway mileage.
5. Do not hang additional devices, parts and accessories on your vehicle and do not carry out maintenance just before the long journey.
If possible, it is not recommended to arrange a test site for testing new lotions that you bought for your favorite brainchild from the upcoming long-distance route. Even the best mechanic can make a mistake and the device can fail. Do not test the performance of new mechanisms and accessories during a long journey, run any novelty. This applies to clothing and a new helmet, which you need to "get along" with even before you entrust them with your body in the distant future.
6. Warm clothes.
A necessary thing on the road. Especially if you plan to continue driving after sunset - even after the hottest days of the night there are more than cool, especially at a speed of 80 km / h and more. And if the day turned out to be cloudy, and even wet? Then the long drive of the following night with cruising speed will seem to you a serious test.
