Tips "experienced" Part 1

Tips of "experienced" (useful and useless), which, I hope, will help you when using a motorcycle in your life, reduce the number of dangerous situations on the roads with your participation and reduce the number of bruises and scratches on your body and motorcycle. All the "tips" were gathered on the Internet and thanks to all the "experienced" for their work.

Passenger transportation

This is a very serious and responsible exercise that also affects manageability and motorcycle dynamics. There is no shadow similar to passenger transportation in a car, where everything is incomparably easier. Forget about passenger transportation and don't think about it until you acquire relatively good driving skills.

When transporting passengers, you should be aware of and comply with the following requirements: If your motorcycle is not designed for a second sedan, do not take it. The bike must be equipped with a seat and industrial steps set by the manufacturer.

Never allow a passenger to sit anywhere other than in a designated seat. The total weight of the driver, passenger and luggage shall not exceed the payload specified in the technical documentation for the motorcycle.

The passenger shall also have protective clothing. You don't think it's less important for him than it is for you, do you? Make sure that the passenger knows the rules of behaviour on the motorcycle. If you haven't ridden with this saddle before and you're not sure if it meets your requirements exactly, spend some time and explain how to behave.

The passenger should:

  • Always lean with your feet on the steps and do not lower your feet even at traffic lights, i.e. until the end of the trip. Avoid contact with hot engine parts.
  • Sit as still as possible, especially when stopping or braking.
  • Always lean with the bike. This means that the angle of inclination of the body should correspond to the angle of inclination of the bike. Hold on to the rider's belt and try to repeat the rider's movements - but do not overdo it!

In a corner, the passenger should look forward over the driver's shoulder in the direction of the turn.

The suspension parameters and tyre pressure must be set to extra weight.

When driving with a passenger, focus on driving comfort to the detriment of sharp impressions, and do not forget to adjust the suspension and change the pressure in the tires. Try to change gears so smoothly that the passenger would ideally not notice it (the indicator is the absence of a characteristic head nod at the time of the change).

Try to start driving and stop so that the passenger does not notice the actual start or stop. Absolute smoothness is what you should strive for. And the passenger must be fully equipped! If there is no helmet and no clothes for the passenger (and everything must be of the right size) - do not put anyone on your motorcycle! No matter how much you are asked to ride!

Periodically there are posts on forums that there was an accident, the passenger - usually a young girl - died, the driver with severe injuries in the hospital ... whether the accident was caused by a motorcycle driver, a drunk pedestrian or because of an open hatch on the road - it is not so important ... it is important what kind of cargo the motorcycle driver has to live with and what other disputes with the traffic police and parents of the deceased girl he will have to. So before someone "ride" - think carefully!

Thank heaven before every departure. And thank them even more after a successful and pleasant trip.

The first thing to do is to get used to (yes, yes, get used to) following the traffic rules. 90% of your safety depends on compliance with the rules, both physically and legally.

Well: another reflex that you have to work out - in front of EVERY Maneuver to look in the rearview mirror! It doesn't matter if you move in your lane or turn around on the avenue through all the lanes and just a few seconds ago you looked in the mirror, and there was no one there. A short glance - and only after this maneuver.

Before overtaking, always throw another look over your shoulder just before rebuilding. Motorcycles, like cars, have a dead zone, and the last check can save your life.

In 25% of motorcycle accidents, it is the left-hand corner drivers who are to blame. By the way,

most accidents happen in short journeys or near home. So always wear full protection, no matter what the trip.
