The sun had just set when Rexic opened his eyes, reached out and looked out of the trough where they had settled down. The flow of cars was greatly reduced. But even at the inexperienced glance of a Labrador, the speed of individual cars increased.

Masha wasn't so experienced. She was excited.

- Let's run!

- No. Early.

- What is it "early": let's run!

Rex led the way. Smell? Yes, you can't make a mistake, but it's worth looking at. And he made a gesture with his tail, meaning: "Follow me.

The animals were chickened out along the highway. It wasn't dark yet, and both could see at dusk. And very soon the Labrador led to the goal.

"It was a cat hit by a car of the day two years ago, and the smell would probably have been smelled even by the stupid people. To be sure, Rex added:

- She tried to run away when she couldn't.

Never think that our four-legged friends can't learn from other people's mistakes. But knowing how to learn and wanting to learn is not the same thing. As well as people. This time, Mashka has shown her discipleship.

The cat put its head on its feet, although it continued to track the approaching machines with its eyes. She trusted her comrade.

The same gazed into the stream and hammocked:

- Follow me!

Rex had calculated correctly. He didn't bother to get to the dividing line, knowing that it wasn't being used by cars. Besides, the edge of this lane was separated by a low metal barrier. The dog also knew that cars did not like to face such barriers. Rexia swung him as he was trained, and Masha jumped under the bottom edge. If the cat was alone, she would have been happy to run through the rest of the highway, but in this case, it was worth looking at a comrade. He was carelessly driving with his ears:

- We'll wait a little longer, so here comes the case...

The possibility was revealed very soon. But these two have already weaned from carelessness. Rex looked at the flow with all the attention. And I didn't miss the chance.

This obstacle was overcome. But it was not the last one.

Chapter seven, in which Rex shows diplomatic ability

It was a strange village. There were no dogs or cats in it because Rexic couldn't smell them. To tell the truth, there were almost no people in it. That's why the travelers thought it was safe. It was also raining.

Rex thought it should be dry under the porch, and even said so aloud when the situation changed. The mistress came out on this very porch. If I had been in the place of these two, I would have thought that the mistress was old. Not out loud, of course.

The animals looked at each other. The smell wasn't so bad, and it was already good. Besides, the mistress's hands smelled of milk, and it was even better, according to Masha. The lack of smell of dogs and cats was confirmed. It was really great.

Rex was muzzling. His wealth of experience has shown that this is the expression that gives him the best chance of success. By success, he meant, as you can imagine, food. Strangers and unfamiliar people had almost no problem with it. Of course, I didn't count on it myself, because I knew all these tricks against my will.

Masha, of course, did not humiliate herself to the pitiful extinction of the delicacies. Rather, her pose meant something like: "If you invite me into the house - and you will long to persuade - I will probably pay a visit.

The hostess looked closely at the aliens.

- Oh, you wet ones. And hungry, I guess?

On these words, Rexic tried to show that he wasn't hungry at all, but if he was offered, then out of respect for the mistress... The cat made the most indifferent face, but she also looked at her comrade. And then her ears turned when she heard the familiar sound.

- A mouse!

With this word, Masha rushed into a dark corner and managed to catch the prey. At other times, the game would not have been so easy to claw. But because of the long absence of hunters in the house, these gray people lost their fear. Almost at the same time, Rexic jumped high in the air and fell down on the floor in another place with terrible force. Luckily, there was no horse there, or it would have been flattened into a tortilla. This is exactly what happened to the second mouse.

Rexic was determined to eat his legitimate prey when he noticed that Masha had brought the killed pest to the mistress's feet. And then the dog's head was clicked by her brains, and Rexick, letting in the most official look, put his mouse next to the first one.

- You're hunters! - A woman admired him.

There was a saucer on the floor, and milk poured into it.

- Eat, honey. You're just like my Stefan on the mice.

The mistress meant the cat, of course. Judging by the mouse's impudence, he hadn't been alive for a long time.

Masha started to flirt:

- You are very kind. Really, I'm not hungry at all. But if you insist so...
