Alberto Apostoli, the architect of the SPAs

"The idea of designing buildings that would ensure the well-being of their users has always been the basis of my design philosophy. This is in the broadest sense of the term. The passage towards the creation of "Wellness" environments took place, therefore, in a spontaneous way; a natural step of my professional path". This is how Apostoli comments on his entry more than twenty years ago into this field of design, still a niche but in strong expansion. Born in Verona in 1968, Alberto Apostoli is now one of the leading international designers and trendsetters in the "Wellness" field. "My first real project related to wellness dates back to 1999, with the industrial development, together with an important company in the sector, of a treatment room, equipped with a special water bed. That bed was in fact the first to use RGB LEDs, those that change color, technology at the earliest dawn in those years". During his career, Alberto Apostoli will also design numerous public and private wellness centres, destination spas and wellness areas in hotels and domestic residences.

Among the most important works are the Four Seasons SPA in Moscow, more than 3,000 square meters of wellness in the historic hotel on Red Square; the "Siynali spa and anti-aging center" in Lijinag, a futuristic structure, built inside a characteristic building of the Chinese town, "Atrium SPA & Beauté", a refined beauty and wellness center built in an ancient crypt in Macon, France, and the personal SPA of the President of Kazakhstan.

Important projects have also been carried out in Italy, from Friuli, where Apostoli designed the spa of the new Grado thermal baths, scheduled to open in 2021, and the Portopiccolo spa, an entire 5-star village in the Gulf of Trieste, to Monreale in Sicily, where he designed the underground spa of the Agrirelais Casale del Principe, a former Benedictine convent with a medieval flavour. In total, more than one hundred projects have been carried out by Alberto Apostoli's team, some of which have won important international awards and architecture prizes.

"In addition to the projects, I try to give my contribution to the sector through cultural activities and conferences. In November I will be holding a master's degree in SPA design at the YAC Academy, alongside studios such as Foster and Libeskind. Last February, I also presented at the Forum Piscine in Bologna, the second edition of the book "Architecture of the SPAs", a volume in which I wanted to retrace the design, construction and management difficulties of these "objects" so fascinating but, at the same time, very complex".

The success of Alberto Apostoli is due to a holistic approach to the project. In every work, in fact, the architect is able to convey many experiences gained in different fields of design (Hospitality, Retail, Office) and knowledge related to marketing, the sale of the "SPA product" and its communication. Its design studio is probably the only one in Italy to offer BIM (Building Information Modeling) design integrated with the drafting of a constructive/operational Business Plan. The figure of this multifaceted professional is completed by his specialisation in the design of equipment and products for spas. One of them is Sasha (acronym for Sauna, Shower, Hammam), a cabin designed for Jacuzzi, the Wellness brand par excellence, which in 8 square meters offers the performance of a professional SPA. At the last Salone del Mobile in Milan, Alberto Apostoli also presented a new collection of wellness products designed in collaboration with Friul Mosaic and Newform.
