Aggression in dogs as a factor hindering training.

As you know, obedience is not the most favorite pastime of any normal dog. It takes a lot of effort and time for the dog to love to work within the framework and limitations that people come up with for it. The key to good dog obedience, as well as reliable control of its behavior, is its focus on its owner. Not necessarily literally visual concentration, but a desire to interact with the owner must be present. In addition to having this desire, other motivations that contradict contact and cooperation with a person should be minimized, if possible. The dog’s presence of aggression towards its brethren significantly weakens the importance for it of communicating with the trainer at a given time. Intraspecific aggression is a powerful factor that has genetic inclinations to its development. But these inclinations are only prerequisites, and not unequivocal predetermination.

It cannot be argued that a substance called aggression inevitably awakens and develops in a dog. The behavior of the dog is formed in the process of growing up, depending on the situations in which it falls. What forms of behavior will be fixed and what the dog will endure from a particular situation depends on the genetic prerequisites, previous experience and circumstances of this situation itself. If we are not at the stage of choosing a breed and a specific puppy, we cannot affect the genetics of our dog. However, the formation of the dog’s experience and the correct actions in a particular situation are completely within the power of its owner.

It is important to consider that the previous experience leaves its mark on those conclusions that the dog draws when evaluating and interpreting the present situation. The trainer needs to act in a specific situation, understanding that it is necessary not only to avoid a fight between dogs here and now, but also to prevent the dog from forming a desire to fight in the future.

Very often, the owner prefers to keep his dog on a leash, not stopping aggressive behavior towards a passing dog. This leads to the development of aggressive behavior in his pet, and at the same time provokes another dog to retaliate aggression. By meeting so regularly, the owners, by their wrong actions, unleash the conflict and form the wrong behavior of their dogs. For these dog owners, it is important first of all to prevent them from fighting here and now, and what’s happening in the dog’s soul is of little concern to them.

Consider several situations that provoke the development of aggressive behavior in a puppy.

First situation. Your puppy is knocked down and rolled on the ground by other puppies or young dogs. At the same time, your puppy is afraid, whining, tightening his tail or trying to run away. At some point, with the courage of despair, he begins to snap and bite, as he obviously does not want to play such games. Is it necessary to punish him for this, of course not. However, further the puppy can behave differently. There are puppies who, when lagged behind, calm down. Others, having defended themselves, begin to play with someone who has offended them recently. Some, having gone wild, begin to fight. These are some of them, at the moment when they move from defense to a tough attack, they must be stopped and the excesses of self-defense must be stopped. It is important to feel the moment when it is time to intervene in the situation. If you do not let the puppy defend itself, this is bad and wrong, if you allow him to feel high and frenzied, when he chews on another puppy this is also not good, as he remembers this state and will then attack and fight himself.

The second situation. Now your puppy is playing roughly with the puppy much weaker than him, the more afraid the little puppy is, the more active the puppy is tormenting him. At that moment, when the little puppy begins to snap, yours starts a fight with him. It is necessary to stop him not when the fight began, but when he began to torment the weaker puppy. There is an opinion that the dogs themselves will understand and people should not interfere in their affairs. However, it should be borne in mind that to date, very diverse in size and durability of the nature of the breed. In addition, dogs breed all year round, so on a walk the puppy meets other puppies that are much older or younger than him, so the forces are completely unequal. Difficulties only harden one puppy, and simply break a puppy and turn it into a neurotic. Even if your puppy is not timid, it’s not profitable for you to be afraid of him and other dogs to shy away from him. He will like this situation and he will develop in this direction. Intraspecific aggression is not something rare and exotic. Although not for everyone, but for many dogs, this is an addiction that is very difficult to get rid of.

The third situation. When meeting, dog owners do not always let their animals sniff, get to know each other and play with each other. Sometimes because there is no time for people, sometimes because one or both dogs behave aggressively. Of course, it’s easier to disperse and not to raise your dog. However, this leads to the fact that dogs do not know how to communicate and they increase the likelihood of aggression towards each other. If your dog is active and energetic, then when you take her away from another dog, without even letting them talk a little, she may begin to whine, bark, break off the leash and the next time this reaction will be even more pronounced.
