A brief history of Queen. Part 7.

Barcelona's album, the duo of Freddy and Montserrat, was released on October 10, 1988. The evening on the occasion of the presentation was traditionally extravagant, and it was held in Crash Bar in the opera building Covent Garden - a very suitable place for such an event.

On December 4th, The Cross gave a concert at the Hammersmith Palace exclusively for members of the fan club. The guests on stage were Brian and John.

The Miracle album was released on May 22, 1989, and took 1st place in the British charts. He was to become a hit on a global scale - he became the first in most European countries. To advertise the album, all four members of the group came to Radio 1 studio and gave an interview to DJ Mike Reed - for him, it was a big jackpot since the group had not been interviewed for several years.

As usual, at the end of the decade on television, especially in the UK, there were numerous programs of the “best 80s”, and Queen was named the best independent television, readers of the TV Times magazine, and was also proclaimed the best group of the 80s. Of course, they were very happy with the award of such a title and all four came to the award ceremony.

At the end of November 1989, they again returned to the studio to work on their next album.

They were again honored on February 18, 1990, as the British record industry awarded them For Outstanding Contribution to British Music. They all came to receive the award, and then went off to celebrate their success - the starry evening at the London Groucho Club was organized on a grand scale.

On March 26, The Cross released its second album, Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know, an excerpt from a quote describing the eccentric Lord Byron! Then The Cross took a short tour in Germany.

Meanwhile, Brian wrote and produced music for Shakespeare's Macbeth, which was staged at the London Riverside Theater.

In November 1990, in North America, Queen signed a new big record deal with Disney-sponsored Hollywood Records. Hollywood immediately set himself the task of returning Queen to its former popularity, and it was decided to reissue all Queen's albums on CD. So far, there have been no Queen records on CDs in the United States.

On December 7, The Cross gave the only concert in the UK at the London Astoria Theater, after which the fan club party again took place. During the encore, Brian joined them on stage. In January, Queen released an epic single, Innuendo, lasting 6.5 minutes. He brought them great success - it was their third single number one in the UK, and he was also the first in many European countries. The album, also called Innuendo, was released on February 4 and immediately hit the first place in the UK charts, and also became the leader of the charts of many European countries.

In March 1991, The Cross again gathered in the studio to record the next album - Blue Rock. The album was released in September by the German company Elektrola - it was released only in Germany.

In April, Queen began recording their next album.

On May 30, 1991, Freddy participated in the filming of the Queen video, which was destined to be the Last Days Of Our Lives. In the United States, they released a version of this clip with Disney animation.

Brian was the organizer of the rock section of the Seville Guitar Legends festival. Among those Brian chose for his performances were Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Way, Joe Satriani, and Joe Welch - and that’s not all. The concert was held in October in a room intended for the Seville Expo-92 exhibition.

In October 1991, Greatest Hits II, a double album with 17 songs, was released. Having also released Greatest Flix II and Greatest Pix II, they repeated their previous success.

A collection of photographs this time was compiled by Richard Gray. A special edition of Box Of Flix was released - there were all the clips from Greatest Flix I and II, as well as 4 bonuses. Needless to say, both Hits II and Flix II took first place in the respective charts!
