A brief history of Queen. Part 4.

Their very first concert in South America took place in Buenos Aires on February 28, 1981. They filled 3 of the most famous Argentinean stadiums, which host world cup competitions, giving 5 sold-out concerts in just 8 days. Then, two evenings, they performed at the huge Morumbi stadium in Sao Paulo. 131,000 people came on the first evening, after which Queen entered the history of rock, breaking the world record for attendance of paid concerts given by one group. And for all those two evenings at the Morumbi Stadium, Queen watched 251 thousand people - some groups don’t get that much in their entire career! Each of Queen's albums was in the top ten of the Argentine charts for the entire time of the tour - not a single group has ever achieved this. In Sao Paulo, Queen celebrated a significant event: the single Love Of My Life has been on the city charts for more than 12 months in a row! In April 1981, Roger released his first solo album, titled Fun In Space. Queen again traveled to South America, and their new journey was called the "Penalty Craving Tour". Unfortunately, their last two Venezuelan concerts in Caracas - had to be canceled, as the former president of the country died. Therefore, the group went to perform in Monterrey and Puebla - near the center of Mexico City.

In October 1981, Greatest Hits, Greatest Flix and Greatest Pix were released at the same time - collections of the best hits, best clips, and best photos. As soon as they saw the light, the Greatest Hits album immediately hit the British charts and has since left them extremely rarely. Greatest Flix was the first commercial publication of its kind to be released by a group. The selection of photos for the Greatest Pix was done by Jacques Lowe, who was the personal photographer of President Kennedy during his tenure. Queen's best shots from the previous decade are from his collection.

Hot Space, the band’s 12th album, was released on May 21, 1982, during the band’s large-scale European tour - just in the middle of the tour. On June 5 this year, a large outdoor concert was given at the Bowl Stadium in Milton Keynes. The whole performance was filmed on television by Tyne-Tees (directed by Gavin Taylor) and shown on channel 4 in The Tube a little later. In September 1982, Japanese record company Mercury Records released Gettin` Smile. At first, they thought it was a bootleg, but it turned out to be a real Smile album. In December 1982, Queen got into the Guinness Book of Records as the highest-paid company executives in the UK.

In January 1983, Freddy began work on a solo album, and Roger began recording his second solo album. Brian flew to Los Angeles earlier this year and met with friends at The Record Plant. He had initial ideas that could be developed - in general, it turned out to be a lengthy jam session. Brian did not want to waste the talents of Edward Van Hallen, Alan Grazer, Phil Chen and Fred Mandel in vain, so everything was taped. The result was a mini-album Star Fleet Project, which was released in October 1983.

In August 1983, Queen musicians gathered again in the studio to work on a new album. The recording took place for the first time in America - in Los Angeles at The Record Plant. A few months later they relocated to Munich. In this city, they worked so much time that they began to consider it their home!

In February 1984, the group released the 13th album - The Works. The single from this album Radio Ga Ga became a hit all over the world, and in 19 countries took the first lines of the charts. Members of the fan club again took part in the filming of the video for him (directed by David Mallett). In the refrain, they had to clap their hands together. It was to my taste, after which fans of the whole world picked up such accompaniment to the song, supporting the group at concerts.

Another single from The Works album was I Want To Break Free - an even more unusual clip was shot for him, also with the participation of club fans. The members of the group dressed up in costumes of female characters from the British soap opera Coronation Street, and when they were asked why they did this, Roger replied that he was tired of serious landmark clips, now it's time to have some fun and show that the group is able to laugh at itself . MTV in America refused to show this clip.
