Should I put the cat in the cargo bay?
Cats can be carried in the aircraft both in the passenger cabin and in the cargo (baggage) compartment of the aircraft. Do I have to say that both for the owner and his pet it is preferable to fly next to each other? You can take a container with a cat with you to the salon under such conditions:
How do I transport my cat in an airplane?
1. The total weight of the cat and the transport container should not exceed 8 kg (in some companies it should be more than 10 kg);
2. The dimensions of the soft carrying bag should not exceed 126 cm in total, and if the container is rigid, its parameters (length, width, height) should not exceed 44x30x26 cm. If the dimensions of the shipping containers exceed the specified values, the seal will have to fly in the cargo compartment of the aircraft;
3. The animal does not pose a potential hazard to passengers and employees of the airline, which is present on board. Sick and too aggressive animals will not be transported in the cabin;
4. Cats without unpleasant smell and abundance of ectoparasites (fleas of ticks, hair-eaters) can be taken to the passenger cabin;
5. A cat or cat is accompanied by an adult (over 18 years of age) with legal capacity.
Flight rules for passengers with cats.
There are rules for transporting cats in an airplane, which animal owners must follow strictly:
1. Cat transport. Containers or carrying bags are not allowed to be placed on the aisles, in the front rows of the saloons, near the emergency exit, near the children of other passengers and near the containers with other (foreign) animals.
2. Notify the airline's employees that there will be an animal on board at least 1.5 days in advance (some companies have at least 2 days in advance);
3. To check in a cat at the check-in desk, it is necessary to arrive at the airport a few hours before departure (at least 1-1.5 hours before departure);
A cat can be transported by air if the requirements for the transportation container are met:
1. In the carrying bag or a rigid container the animal should lie down, stand up, sit down;
2 Animal containers must be securely closed to prevent the pet from escaping;
3. The bottom of the container shall be covered with absorbent cloth;
4. It is important that the animal has access to air while in the carrier;
5. Feeding the cat during the flight is not allowed;
6. Cat transport container
7. The rules for the carriage of cats in an airplane prohibit the owners from taking their cats out of the shipping containers and taking them on their hands;
8. It is desirable that the cat owner has a veterinary kit with him/her;
9. A cat can only be transported in an airplane if it is not ill. Each airline company has its own requirements for vaccines that should have been given to the cat at the veterinary clinic some time before the flight, but rabies vaccination is a prerequisite for traveling with any company's pet planes;
10. A drinker for the cat can be placed in the container for transportation (this is especially important if the flight is long);
11 Most airlines prohibit the carriage of more than 5 cats on board, even in the cargo area;
Not all airlines agree that kittens (under 3-4 months of age) and cats are allowed on board.
Documents for transportation of a cat in the plane.
Now it's time to find out what documents are needed to carry cats in the plane.
Documents for transporting cats.
1. International veterinary passport;
2. Veterinary Certificate No. 1;
3. Certificate of chipping;
4. Rabies virus antibody determination certificate (period of preparation of such document for issue not less than 3 weeks);
5. Certificate of absence of tribal value;
6. International veterinary certificate (issued at the airport).
What is important not to forget before departure.
You have to prepare seriously for a flight with a pet. The owner should follow these rules:
1. Questions about the condition of your pet should be resolved in advance with your vet. For example, it is highly recommended that animals with cardiovascular and pulmonary problems and brain diseases are not carried in the aircraft.
2. All possible problems with pet documents should be solved.
3. A veterinarian can be consulted about taking a course of tranquillizers for some time before the flight. But on the day of departure, such medications should not be given to the cat: due to changes in atmospheric pressure during the summer, the cat may become ill after taking sedatives;
4. It is also better to discuss the composition of the first aid kit with the doctor. This is especially important if your pet has a health problem;
5. A few weeks before the flight, the cat should be accustomed to the bag or container. The cat should be in a calm state there.
6. On the day of departure, the cat should be fed at least an hour before leaving home (ideally it should take at least 4 hours from the last meal before departure).
