Snow, mud, rain, cold. In the dark you drive to work, in the dark you come home. The train does not run because the rail network is iced up, the cart does not start because it's too cold. Yes, in winter it is not easy, as it can beat the mind very quickly. In fact, in Germany extremely many people suffer from the so-called winter depression. From a medical point of view, this is not really a true depression, ie no officially recognized disease, but it does limit one of them. You have less strength, less desire to do something, you feel less joie de vivre and you are actually busy waiting for spring all the time. Why is that bad? Because we often forget to live the moment in winter. And that makes us depressed!

The virtues of winter conscious (he) live

Winter is not just bad. There should even be people who love the winter. Ok, you do not have to love the winter idolatrously so you do not get depressed, but at least you do not have to see the negative in it.

Turn the spit once over. What can you do in winter, which you can not do in the summer?

-Drink mulled wine

-Visit Christmas markets

-Just lie on the sofa when the weather is bad

-Bake Christmas cookies

-Go sledging (if it's snowing)

-Create cozy candle atmospheres

to move freely without immediately starting to sweat

sleep better due to the lower temperatures

walk in peace through the area without being attacked by wasps

somehow sleep longer, because it is dark longer

sometimes go to bed earlier, without immediately having a bad conscience

Even if you are sick, just relax and do nothing the whole day

you do not have to worry about the garden

You can store your drinks outside and you do not have to put them in the fridge

You can wear great winter boots, funny hats and crass winter coats

Grannies / moms even crocheted socks are used

did I mention biscuits? and mulled wine?

Not everything at winter is bad ...

Not everything at winter is bad ...

Well, what I mean by that is that winter also has its own beautiful sides that you just have to accept and that you have to realize that there are certain benefits only in winter. You are not so negative about the winter. But is that enough?

The missing light

Usually not. The main reason why we are so bad in winter is a drastic lack of light. Through light, serotonin is released in our body, that is our happiness hormone. The counterpart to this is melatonin, which is promoted by darkness. If it is naturally darker than light in winter, then this horn balance is completely confused. So there is a surplus of melatonin that puts our body in a tired ground state. In this condition, our brain prohibits "bad vibrations" - consisting of anxiety, fear of the future, bad mood, listlessness, listlessness or even pessimism or a feeling of emptiness. Like every problem, the problem must be tackled at the root here too, that is, the lack of light. Lighting in winter is just important. If you are such a person who has a 9-5 job, you will not be able to get much light during the week. So here are some tips on where to get more light:

-Use the breaks and go out, even with not so good weather

-Use the weekends or free times and occasionally go for long walks

-Go quietly to the solarium several times a month - that works like a light therapy and really helps immensely

-Natural light is also available as light source, ie as light bulbs, for example. This light is based on the sunlight and thus has the same effect of daylight.

-A walk in the forest to recharge your batteries helps!

-What else helps?

Basically, everything that awakens happiness in us and releases happiness hormones helps. Sport has proven to be particularly successful, since after sport a lot of happy hormones are released. Curiously, at the same time, "sinfulness" - in the form of food - proves itself at the same time. Food is more important in winter than in summer. On the one hand, the body needs more energy (the stove needs to heat harder), and on the other, the body simply demands more cool food in cold weather. Conversely, if you do not provide your body with the required amount or the needed lust for food, then the brain will get angry with you! So: In the winter, a little bit on the calorie saving and give it a try. My tip: chocolate, that makes you happy.

Of course, if you are really depressed, chocolate and co will not be able to help you either. Then you should really seek medical help. Whether you are really seriously depressed or not, you actually can not judge for yourself. But if you have serious doubts, then go to the doctor! He will be able to help you, not only with medications, but also through discussions, or through alternative treatments such as special herbal therapies.
