Arthur Roberts, business consultant, 28 years old

I first tried hair removal three years ago, before traveling to Spain. The year before, I was relaxing with a friend in Italy and noticed that most of the locals walk with a smooth body, so I decided to thoroughly prepare for the next vacation: I came to the salon for sugaring (a way to remove hair with thick sugar paste) and asked the master to remove all unnecessary.

Oddly enough, I liked the feeling of the procedure itself: it was not painful at all. However, irritation made itself felt, and the redness did not subside for about 3-4 days. By the end of the second week, the hair began to sprout and struggled to break free, in some places small pimples appeared. And the calendula solution, which the master advised to wipe the skin, had a rather unpleasant odor. I decided to find a depilation method that is more suitable for my sensitive skin and relatively thin vegetation. He began to remove hair in the armpits and abdomen with an epilator, which he received as a gift from his mother, and in more irritating places - the chest and the bikini zone - to go with a regular razor. I must admit that there are still less unpleasant consequences from sugaring than from the epilator and razor, but I’m already used to resort to the second method. I shave once every two weeks, and I use the epilator less often - about once a month.

In European countries, hairy men are much less common than with a smooth body, and in Russia echoes of the Soviet mentality and “prison” concepts are still strong

Why remove hair? For the sake of aesthetics! The times when a man could have been a little prettier than a monkey has sunk into oblivion! We all go to the gym, pool, in the summer - to the beach, on especially hot days we like to wear T-shirts. Under these conditions, a well-groomed body is not a fad, but an urgent need. In European countries, hairy men are much less common than with a smooth body, and in Russia echoes of the Soviet mentality and “prison” concepts are still strong. Many men disdain to even use face cream, considering it to be exclusively a female affair. Therefore, by the age of 40, Russians look like Europeans at age 60!

Victor Sitalo, Head of Cycling at I Love Supersport School of Cycling Sports, 31

Since my youth, I have been engaged in amateur cycling. The need for depilation arose after the transition to road cycling and the sharply increased number of training since the lack of hair on the cyclist's body solves several problems at once. Firstly, hygiene: after long all-weather workouts, smooth skin patches are much easier to wash. Secondly, safety: in April of this year, I fell off my bicycle at speeds above 50 km / h, got quite large abrasions on my thigh and forearm, and due to the lack of hair on my legs, I was able to properly treat wounds. I can imagine what torment awaited me if every time when changing the bandage I had to tear the adhesive plaster from my hair.

But the main thing that makes athletes do hair removal is seconds of advantage over “hairy opponents”. During the race, the cyclist encounters a stream of oncoming air, which goes around the body contours and causes additional “friction”, the speed drops. Of course, on a bike ride in the park, you will not feel the difference, but during a sports race, the lack of hair is an additional free opportunity to speed up. I know only a couple of cyclists for whom these seconds play a decisive role, but for professional racers, this is really important: so, before trying to break the hourly record, Sir Bradley Wiggins nevertheless shaved his stylish beard in favor of aerodynamics.

Look at the sculpted tanned legs of a cyclist, and then at the hairy and thin legs of a “sexual orientation specialist”. Comments are superfluous!

Aesthetics in the issue of depilation is also important: the times when a well-groomed man was perceived by others as a representative of sexual minorities are gone. Look at the sculpted tanned legs of a cyclist, and then at the hairy and thin legs of a “sexual orientation specialist”. Comments are superfluous!

Depilation itself is a boring, but necessary routine, which I resort to once every three weeks. At first, I tried shaving with a machine tool and hot wax depilation. In the first case, it is necessary to constantly wash the blade and do repetitions on the same area of the skin, which will certainly lead to irritation. It is difficult to carry out depilation with hot wax at home: this substance requires extreme care in handling. Therefore, I decided to remove my hair with a wax applicator: the wax in the cartridge warms up to the desired temperature and is evenly applied using a roller. My first attempt was successful, as I had previously thought out a “promotion plan” from calves to hips. But still, the process lasts quite a long time: it takes an average of one and a half to two hours to complete the depilation of legs. Time expenses are compensated by the presence of a column with the Arzamas podcast!
