The International Kennel Federation (FCI - FCI) has approved its own standard for each dog breed, which describes the ideal type of the corresponding breed. From the day of its publication, the FCI standard comes into force and is mandatory for all member countries of the International Cynological Federation.
Due to the fact that certain breeds of dogs continue to develop and improve, the country where the breed is bred can, if necessary, supplement or change the standard. So, for example, until 1965, poodles demonstrated at international exhibitions, trimmed in a new form (modern), could not receive a certificate of a candidate for the international beauty champion (CACIB - CACIB). Only as a result of a change in the standard for a poodle in which a new haircut form was recognized, can poodles trimmed in this form be able to compete with poodles trimmed in a classic style at exhibitions and receive the title of CACIB.

Of course, the desire of every dog breeder is to bring out such specimens of dogs that would possibly come closer to the ideal described in the standard. To what extent their desire turned out to be successful is revealed at a dog show at which their exterior is evaluated. At the exhibitions, the exterior of the displayed dogs is evaluated by selected and specially trained experts.
The scale and significance of the exhibition can be regional, regional, republican, national, special, international or worldwide. District and regional exhibitions are organized in separate areas and dogs from other areas can take part in them. National or, more often, now called national exhibitions will be held once a year in each republic, namely for all dog breeds included in the scope of the corresponding union of amateur dog breeders, or by agreement the unions hold an exhibition together. Special exhibitions are organized, as a rule, by separate clubs of amateur dog breeders for the breeds of which they are engaged. International exhibitions are held for dogs of all breeds and are organized under the auspices of the FCI. *) At the exhibitions, the exterior of the dogs is rated excellent, very good, good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory. In addition, at various exhibitions, the best dogs are awarded various titles, such as, for example, a champion, a club winner, a class winner, etc. At international exhibitions, the best male and female dogs of the corresponding breed are given a certificate of candidate for the international beauty champion (CACIB). This certificate checks and certifies the FCI, since the approval of the title of CACIB requires the fulfillment of certain conditions established by the FCI. If a dog at various international exhibitions in different countries and from different experts for at least one year will receive a fixed number of CACIBs, then the FCI can award it the title of “International Beauty Champion”. This is the highest rating that a dog can get for the exterior at all. However, it is important that at least one of the shows is in the country of the owner of the dog or in the country of origin of the breed.
At shows, as a rule, dogs are evaluated in different classes, divided both by the age of the dogs (young class, young dog class, older class) and whether the dog has test marks (working dog class, open class) , or by whether the dog already has any title (class of winners, champions, etc.)
Organizers of shows can, of course, assign other classes, mainly in order to divide the respective dogs into a larger number of groups. Thus, a more accurate assessment of dogs is facilitated and exhibitors have the opportunity to receive a greater number of titles on their pets.
To get a high mark and an honorary title for a dog at the exhibition is a natural dream of all exhibitors. The awarded title fits into the pedigrees of the descendants of this dog and the more ancestors in the pedigree have any rank, the more valuable the puppy is, since it can be assumed that he will inherit the good qualities of his outstanding ancestors. However, until now, the secrets of heredity, which have not yet been completely studied, sometimes do not justify these assumptions and are cause disappointment and grief for dog breeders. Indeed, in addition to origin, the environment in which the puppy grows and its proper feeding during various periods of growth and development is of great importance. If not for this, then all the dogs would have been with us for a long time only of an excellent exterior. Experience shows that improving the exterior of the breed is extremely difficult. Therefore, individual clubs for lovers of individual breeds impose even more stringent requirements than before, when selecting producers and selecting pairs in order to receive not only outstanding individual animals, but raise the level of the entire breed.
