Puppy hygiene

Puppies are more susceptible to various infections than adult dogs, so try to keep your pet especially clean in the first months of life. First of all, take care of his place. The litter of the puppy should be covered with a clean cover, which must be washed often.
It is advisable to wash the floor at least once a week, and carpets must be cleaned with special tools.
Until the puppy is fully vaccinated, it is not recommended to walk around the apartment in street shoes. It is better to clean your shoes in a place inaccessible to the puppy.
If the puppy gets dirty during bowel movements, wash it with warm water and gently pat it with a soft terry cloth. Redness in the anus is greased with baby cream or boron vaseline, you can powder with baby powder or treat with sea buckthorn oil.
Bathing puppies in the first 2 months is not recommended, do this only if the puppy is very dirty. Next, bathe the puppy, depending on the requirements for the care of this breed, however, in any case, you can not bathe the dogs more than 1 time per month.
It is recommended to wash long-haired dogs with soft hair 2-3 times a month, especially if they regularly participate in exhibitions. Some breeds should not be bathed unless absolutely necessary, as their wool has water-repellent properties that disappear from bathing. When bathing, it is necessary to avoid getting water in the ears and shampoo in the eyes. In puppies, while bathing, the ear canals are best closed tightly with small cotton swabs. You can wash the puppy in the sink or in the bathroom by placing it on a rubber mat. Be extremely vigilant at this time, as the dog can jump out and hurt himself quite unexpectedly.
Moisten a pet's coat with water, the temperature of which should be about 35 C; the pressure of the soul should not be strong so as not to scare the puppy and cause fear and aversion to bathing for the rest of his life.
Use soft shampoos, and for long-haired breeds - shampoos with special additives. Apply shampoo, massage the puppy's skin lightly and then rinse thoroughly with detergent. If part of the shampoo stays on the coat, it will be dull and dandruff may appear.
After shampooing your long-haired puppies, you should use a conditioner-rinse or a special balm that will give the coat additional silkiness and shine. Rinse the coat thoroughly again, wring it out with your hands and, not letting the dog shake off, wrap it in a soft terry towel, pat the coat slightly.
Using special tweezers (designed for cats and birds) shorten the tips of the claws. In different breeds of dogs, the pulp is located at different distances from the edge of the claw, so consult a specialist who will determine how long the claws should be shortened.

Claw cutting

When cutting the claws, hold the puppy's paw with one hand, and with the other, carefully cut the edge of the claw. It is important not to hurt the puppy for the first time so that he does not subsequently resist the haircut.
Periodically trim the hair on the legs of puppies of long-haired breeds, remove the fallen hair between the fingers, on the stomach, on the inner thighs, around the anus.
Ears are enough to clean once a week. It is good to instill 1-2 drops of a special liquid, gently massage the base of the ear, and then carefully insert a dry ear bud wrapped in cotton wool, making a slight rotational movement.
If the ear discharge is dark brown in color, has an unpleasant odor, special therapeutic drops should be used, but it is better to pick them up on the advice of a veterinarian. Over time, you will gain experience and will know in what cases which preparations can be used, but the novice dog breeder should not engage in self-treatment.
For long-haired puppies, regularly trim the hair on the ears from the outside and inside. Old dying wool from the ear canal needs to be plucked.
When the puppies grow up and their hair becomes long enough, you need to start regular combing. To do this, you need a special brush or comb with blunt tips that will not hurt the puppy's skin.
Make sure that the teeth of the brush glide from the very roots along the entire length of the coat. When combing, not a single nodule and not a single tang should remain untangled. To do this, it is convenient to use a comb with smooth sparse teeth or a short knitting needle. Especially difficult tundles try to disassemble with your hands first. All this must be done extremely carefully and gently. You can use special fluids to unravel the tundra. Once or twice a week, the hair of long-haired puppies should be treated with oil, it is best to apply oil a few hours before bathing.
With the complete rejection of the use of oils, it is necessary to bathe the dog with special shampoos in which there is an oil additive.
You can add some vegetable, preferably olive, oil to the dog shampoo. Shake the mixture well and wash her dog. The coat will be silky and the skin will become soft and supple.
