Computer technology's ability to process and store information, as well as its network characteristics, will continue to evolve in the same spirit as in the past few decades. By 2029, for example, computer clusters with parallel data processing will be 50 to 100 times more powerful.
Computer programs will mainly be Web-based, and Internet usage will also increase. There will be more users who will have access to many activities in the online environment, and applications will become more advanced and easy to manage. At the same time, the content on the sites will not fall behind - its number will increase seriously.
It is already obvious today that people use the Internet thanks to a variety of devices: computers, mobile phones, PDAs, netbooks and even computer games. However, there are also new devices created specifically for this or that application. Even environmental sensors and other similar devices already transmit the materials they collect via the Internet. So online there will soon be not only a lot of information but also data on how people and systems think and act.
These computer systems will be able to obtain information through the collective behavior of billions of people. Machines will be able to distinguish between objects, nuances, concepts, meanings - in general, all the previously inaccessible, understandable information. At the moment, the search in Google is only at an early stage of development of this perception. But there is no limit to perfection, as we know.
What does the future mean for Google? First of all, a significantly improved search. Search engines can be "taught" to recognize not only simple words and concepts, but also symbols and stories. Search will become conceptual, you can ask Google to find you a product, for example, with an exciting chase and a happy ending. And since the systems will learn how to interact with individuals, they will offer search results suitable for each individual user and the situation in which he is, time of day and so on.
Translation and multimodal systems will also be a reality. So users who speak one language can easily understand people who speak another language and process data in a language they do not know.
The impact of such systems will spread beyond Google. Researchers in the medical and scientific fields will be able to access huge amounts of data. They will be able to conduct analyses and research that are not yet possible today. For example, the powerful Large Synoptic Survey Telescope will be able to generate 15 terabytes of new information per day, and in principle, every field of knowledge will only gain from the emergence of such systems that can store, process, and even receive information from the data collected.
Traditionally, systems capable of solving complex problems are called reasonable. But in comparison with the already known to us artificial intelligence, the one we are talking about now, has outstanding new elements. First of all, the Internet of the new generation will be able to work on the basis of unprecedented computing power with millions of computers. It will interact with billions of people and receive information from them (and therefore adapt to work with everyone).
The new Internet will be created and improved on the basis of iterative cycles and feedback. It will solve serious problems, provide information and answers to questions, conduct dialogues, translate texts and interpret images.
And in combination with the creativity, knowledge, and energy of users, smart Internet will provide humanity with amazing and useful advantages.
