Have you ever wondered how the mouse and keyboard came into our lives? As you and I are accustomed to seeing them, these input devices are relatively new. It's about the keyboard, which now can be found in almost every home. Both the keyboard itself and the keyboard layout have undergone multiple changes since it appeared on the typewriter in 1873.
Lore of keyboard with some myths and facts.
The most common keyboard layout "QWERTY", called the first letters of the upper right row of keys, appeared on one of the first American typewriters company "Remington". There is a myth that such arrangement of keys was thought up for slowing down the printing and, as a consequence, reduction of jamming of the typewriter at the expense of repositioning of levers. All was on the contrary, really, the first apportionment of an alphabetic order strongly enough attached levers at the fast press, and apportionment "QWERTY" should remove a defect, and to increase speed of the press. Computer keyboards have appeared together with computers as the device of input of the data which has replaced punches and teletype tapes of the first computers. These keyboards already had a significant number of functional buttons, unlike typewriters. The sixties are an era of new innovative operating system with the use of visual display of input information, which gave the user the opportunity to see and immediately edit the information typed by him. With the advent of a personal computer, the keyboard becomes an integral part of it, goes into the category of a separate peripheral device and is gradually modified to its modern form.
No less interesting is the story of a computer mouse
The history of the mouse is no less fascinating. The first computer mouse was born only in 1963, as a development of the Stanford Institute. And only in 63 years of the last century the computer mouse began to operate the graphic interface of the computer of firm "Xerox", this mouse had three buttons. Then the manipulator on the wire did not impress the audience. And only with the advent of Apple Macintosh computers, which in their operating system gave the lion's share of mouse control, it begins to occupy a dominant position in the management of the operating system interface. The idea has struck Windows developers so much that they've adopted the ideas of the Aplae for their system as well. In this way, they gave an impulse for the mouse to conquer the entire computer world.
Mice with trackballs were uncomfortable because the ball quickly got dirty and lacked the precision of modern optical models. However, mice of those years satisfied almost everyone: it was so convenient to use them. The first mice used a moving ball as a motion sensor, and it was replaced by optical mice and laser mice. It's usually a two-button mouse, though until recently, the Mac has been making its own applications for single-button mice. The introduction of the scroll wheel made it easy to navigate documents and the Internet. Now you can meet a lot of different mice from ascetic with one button, to multimedia with a dozen programmable buttons. Keyboards and mice gradually get rid of tails in the form of wires, it is a radio or Bluetooth device. What we will see as input devices in a few years, we can only guess.
