As the destination of our honeymoon we chose Africa and more precisely a journey that would take us to live the experience of the Safari allowing us to see the most majestic waterfalls that exist in the world, the Victoria Falls.
It was an unforgettable journey full of emotions that we would like to share with you through a series of posts that we will slowly publish (no, no, don't worry not one after the other otherwise what a bore for those who are not interested!). We will take you to the discovery of Kruger National Park, Chobe, Okavango Delta, Cape Town and of course Victoria Falls.
We left in September 2011 at the beginning of their spring. Closing our eyes, we were presented with a gallery of postcards and unforgettable memories. Africa is always a great experience, it leaves in your heart that feeling that many call Africa sick, perhaps because it is a country so beautiful and poor and contradictory at the same time.
In Africa, I, Elisa, had been to Angola as soon as the war ended in 2002 for a volunteer camp and to Guinea in 2004 for an African dance workshop and I had always and only had to do with poverty. This time it was different. South Africa in some ways resembles Holland. Sometimes you feel like you're in Europe if it weren't for the fact that if you distract yourself for a moment you find yourself in front of a township, real sheet metal lagers where violence is the order of the day.
Or you're driving on a mountain road and suddenly in the opposite lane you see a pile of hairs that runs and dims and you ask yourself: "what is a dog?" and then you realize that he was a huge baboon. South Africa is traveling by the whales that peep out into the sea and be able to spot them from the shore. It's losing your suitcase and having to sign a declaration made with carbon paper. It's a nation that warmly supports a rugby team and that dresses in their uniforms even to go to work. It's an aperitif at sunset in the savannah. It's taking a 5-seater piper to fly over paradise and find yourself praying that you don't really wake up in Paradise!
At least this is our Africa, the Africa we've tasted...
