Prepare spring in autumn: planting tulips

Оглавление

May is one of the richest months for blossoming, but in order for the favorites of spring blossoming - tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths - to please you with their beauty, it is necessary to plant them now, in autumn.

Daffodils are the first to drop out of this friendly trio. This should be done at the end of August and beginning of September. September is the key month for bulbs and roots to take root. And it depends on how well the daffodils will survive the winter.

In general, narcissus is a winter-hardy plant and not very fastidious. And most importantly, it does not require annual digging after flowering, like tulips and hyacinths. Daffodils should be transplanted once in 4-5 years to give a place to the children who have been born during this time.

No matter how many colors and varieties the modern selection has developed!

Pioneering tulips can not even be identified, their beautiful inflorescences are so atypical that they really resemble peony flowers.

Lillie's varieties resemble both tulips and lily buds.

Fragrant tulips are just a real miracle of light: flowers covered with fringe.

The color spectrum of tulips covers, perhaps, the whole palette, even such a color that is practically not found in the plant world as black. And all this beauty is quite real to grow independently.

Planting of tulips, depending on the weather conditions in the middle zone begins in the middle of September and is possible till the middle of October. But if the weather forecast is not favorable, you should not postpone this event until the last one.

The tulip belongs to the culture, which in Russian conditions should be dug up after flowering. Let's see why and why. First of all, tulip bulbs have a tendency to go deep, and from year to year unearthed, they will go lower and lower, it will be more and more difficult for them to germinate, flowers will become smaller. Secondly, in summer the tulip needs to form a new flower bud, and it can only happen at a sufficiently high temperature - from 25 degrees Celsius. Not every Russian summer can boast of such temperatures, but in the ground, and even more taking into account the deepening, and even less. Thirdly, at the raised humidity bulbs of tulips can rot, accordingly, if there will be a rainy summer, parts of bulbs for the next year can not be counted.

Nevertheless, although annual digging is desirable, at least one season can be avoided. And simple tulips - that's the name of the variety of common, familiar colors - are less demanding and more adapted to our conditions. They grow quietly and bloom without digging for several years.

You need to dig up tulips in June-July when the leaves turn yellow and the stem becomes soft.

This gorgeous man is a rare guest in our gardens because he is the most demanding of the onion three in May. Hyacinth needs sun and water to bloom. And it should be dug up every year. Preparing for the next season - drying and storage of bulbs should take place at a temperature of about 30 degrees. And you can plant hyacinths like tulips from mid-September to mid-October.

Hyacinths are often grown in nurseries in pots. You can try to do the same at home. The main condition is to provide the flower with imitation of the natural environment, i.e. to gradually decrease the temperature to plus 5-7 degrees, to stay in this mode for 2-3 months, and then to increase the temperature at which the hyacinth will start to grow, but not above 20 degrees.

Uniform rules

  • When choosing a place to plant, remember that bulbs don't like stagnant water.
  • The bulbs can be soaked for half an hour in a mild manganese solution before planting.
  • The depth of planting depends on the size of the bulbs. Typically, the planting depth - the distance from the bottom of the planting trench to the top - is equal to three bulb heights. On clay soils, it is recommended to reduce the planting depth to two heights.
  • Tulips and hyacinths requiring excavation can be placed in special planting baskets to make them easier to dig up.
  • Remember that after the foliage blossoms, both daffodils and tulips and hyacinths dry out. Take this into account when forming a flowerbed, think about how the empty space will close.

Although some bulbs need digging, they are easy to clean and very decorative. Plant now, and all spring you will be delighted by the flowering flowerbeds and bouquets that adorn the house. And don't forget to plant early spring flowers that blossom right after the snow melts.
