About motivation and two frogs in sour cream

I very love use and to argue in example parable about two frogs, rounded in sour cream. Somehow, over the past couple of weeks, I've come across two alternative versions of this parable on the Internet — that is, with a different ending. Of course, it was humorous, but every joke has its share of ... jokes, and so I decided to talk about it.

Than parables and other metaphors are good? They in allegorical form Express the saved-up wisdom and give advice where to move further, push to reflections about how it would be possible to arrive to you.

Let's remember this parable and think about the different complex issues of life.

Original story about two frogs: short version

Once upon a time there were two frogs. So one night they went out for a walk and got into a cellar in a house. Jumped they, jumped in cellar and accidentally fell both in pot with sour cream. And began to sink in it.
And of course they don't want to drown. Then they began to flounder and swim. But the clay pot had very high and very slippery walls. And there was no way for the frogs to get out.
One frog swam a little, floundered and thinks: "I still can not get out of here. Why should I flounder in vain? Only to suffer in vain. I'd rather drown." She thought so ceased to wallow and drowned.
And the second frog-was not such a. She thinks: "No, I always have time to drown. Better yet, I'll wallow, I'll swim. Who knows, maybe I can do something."
She also swam and floundered — and still she can not get out. But still she does not give up and thinks: "Nothing, as long as the strength is, I will flounder.»
And that's the last effort struggling this frog, about to drown, but drown. And she still does not give up, know yourself, legs kicking.
And suddenly, the frog feels under my feet she is not sour cream, but something solid and sturdy. The frog was surprised, looked and saw: there is no sour cream in the pot, but it is, the frog, on a lump of oil.
She wondered, then realized: because she is the legs of your liquid cream solid oil knocked.
"Well," thinks the frog,"then I did well not to drown at once."
She thought so, jumped out of the pot, rested and rode to his home in the woods.

I think we are all adults, anyone especially do not need to explain what exactly tells this parable:

• not give up;

• whatever happens, go ahead;

• work hard;

• not afraid;

* who is lazy, that will receive nothing;

* you will be rewarded (saved).

Overall a good parable, so positive, about the motivation. You can think about a lot of things and talk about a lot:

* For example, what would you do if you were in the shoes of these frogs? Have you ever had such situations in your life?

* What do you need to want to flounder and kick?

• Why desire to "drown immediately" can be not very the right?

• Have you ever in your life is that you did not have the strength and did not want to flounder? For what reason did this happen, and what did you do?

• What was the self-esteem and self-confidence of both frogs?

There are in this parable and some additional, not immediately noticeable details - or not discussed details. Sometimes it makes sense to also pay attention to them. For example:

* It turns out that this oil is now spoiled, because it now lies a dead mouse?

* Is it possible that it is impossible to beat butter (pasteurized milk, for example) and then what to do?

• Does all hard work lead to rewards and happy endings?

• Is it true that achieving a result is always accompanied by sacrifice? Is it justified?

* What is the probability and possibility that the second frog will flounder-flounder, and drown, only tired? Is there any sense in such a struggle?

And such reflections can already "shake" a little the established system of values or beliefs, as a result of which it may be possible to discuss and work on specific tasks. In any case, it develops flexibility in thinking and in beliefs, and it is much more useful than using a black and white rating scale (right/wrong, worthy/unworthy, always/never, etc.).

In the subject of established belief systems, there is a great test - scale dysfunctional Beck-Weissman relationship, which can be used not only as a test, but also as an exercise for homework. You can think about the questions from this test from the position, and why some other people may respond to this statement in a different way. What position in life allows them to reason and act in this way.
