Where and what to eat in Vienna. Practical advice. Part 4

Continuing my travel Vienna diaries, I would like to touch upon such a burning topic as nutrition. I don’t believe that she’s not relevant for a tourist, although I have known one girl who, imagine, was bored to eat! So she didn’t eat. Well, if it’s quite a bit and not very tasty ... But, I think that most of us are not like that and consider a vacation inferior without gastronomic, albeit small, but joys.

How...

Of course, depending on your financial capabilities and taste preferences, you can organize a daily full-fledged restaurant meal, including lunch, third afternoon, coffee breaks and even fire-o-cloks - who’s used to it. And while never repeat in choosing a place. And, I think, every time it will be interesting. As one of the members of our team rightly remarked, in Vienna every “wallet” is on any wallet - literally on every meter, but with the similarity of the main menu (coffee, beer, sausages, meat, potatoes, etc.) each institution has some kind of then our, let's say, “chip” is a feature that distinguishes it from other similar ones ... However, I think this option is still somewhat costly for the average tourist.

In the Austrian capital, it is quite acceptable to take a different way of choosing a food system, which is quite popular among our compatriots - to buy products in a supermarket / market and cook for yourself. For this, all you need is to have a kitchen (read - rent an apartment). With this organization of business, you need to calculate the time and energy to go to the store and actually cook, and this is always a pity, since it is to the detriment of walking, going to museums and others.

Another obvious minus for me here is, as a rule, there are products that have to be thrown out before departure, or taken with you, weighting luggage. Although at a price, in my opinion, this option will on average not be much more expensive than in Russia in a similar situation, if you compare products of about the same quality level.

The problem of unused products is also relevant when choosing the “mixed” option: shop + restaurant. You can avoid it if you tune in to "non-waste food" - fruits, raw vegetables, sandwiches, ready-made salads, etc. But in principle, with a sensible approach to "product sales", this option is very nice, well, for me, at least. Hotel breakfasts included in the price of the room can also be a good help for saving - refueling tightly from the mornings, dined in a pleasant place, and during the day “sat down on coffee with a cake” once or twice (well, where are there no coffee houses in Vienna ?!), Yes, I glanced in passing at the market to stock up on a bottle of Riesling or Gösser ...

I see this approach as optimal in terms of price / quality. Therefore, an auxiliary (I cherish this hope) tourist review “where to go in search of tasty and maybe even useful” I will build on the basis of my personal sympathies.

We eat at home or in the market, a supermarket and ... duty free

To be honest, the "market" theme excites me in any city. Everything is somehow by inertia you expect a freshly-picked pair, something specifically razetakogo, and, perhaps, cheaper. Well and, of course, horror like hunting of local inexpressible color! In general, yes, I am greedy for impressions. If you are set up in about the same way, then even if you spend time going to the market, then during the Christmas markets - the corresponding mood, the surroundings of the New Year's fairy tale, well, there is something to gaze at. The rest of the time, alas and ah - nothing really interesting ...

I meticulously chose which market to visit in Vienna, shoveling a mountain of information on the net. I chose the "stomach of the city" (the theme is where to eat) - the Nashmarkt market (the largest, conveniently located, etc.). Of course, fruits and vegetables, sausages, meats, cheeses and other things, there is a large selection. And everything looks pretty good.

But what about the "cheaper" - this is definitely not. Regarding “it was collected half an hour ago from the local producer” - it is doubtful whether the place needs to be known. Well, no special atmosphere. Verdict - did not like.

It reminded me very much of the middle market in any Russian city - rows of groceries, oriental pickles and sweets, non-European faces behind the shelves even in sausage shops, attempts to boil exorbitantly under the guise of "Italy, Natur Italy" made in India or Turkey ... Well, the smells ... a mixture of the smells of the eastern market. I will not say that pleasant. So, even market beer cafes didn’t “excite” at all.
