A new Gelendwagen entered the Russian market - its usual version is the Mercedes-Benz G500 and the version with the AMG prefix and the G63 index.

The first thing I would like to note is the fleur that arose around the novelty long before its premiere and entry into the global car market, when the manufacturer presented a photo of “Gelik” in a piece of ancient amber like a mosquito from “Jurassic Park”. In this metaphor, by the way, the main feature of the new generation was hidden. But more on that later.

So, even then it became known about changes in the design of the SUV, in particular that the G-class will lose the frame and get a front independent suspension. A lot of interesting things happened to the lovers of off-road and the classic German “cube” at that moment: someone had a heart attack, someone had a stroke, and the most persistent had diarrhea. How so? Missing "Gelendwagen." They killed the legend.
But the murder did not happen. There is a place for the very chip mentioned above. The fact is that the leadership of Daimler did not want to abandon Gelik, as colleagues from Land Rover did with their Def. The machine is very popular in the USA and on the Russian market (primarily the USA, of course), which is why it was decided to release it for many, many more years.

What had to be done? And you had to leave the classic G-class design familiar to everyone, but stuff it with modern giblets. It would seem that here is complicated? Russian engineers and not so in the bowels of the domestic automobile industry enterprises did (ut). But apparently ours are not there, which in itself is wonderful. Nevertheless, the task turned out to be quite difficult, it was solved about four years.

What's New in Mercedes-Benz AMG G63
The question is interesting, and the answer to it is never easier. It’s easier to list what remains of the old G-Class. These are door handles, door hinges (which still remained outside the plane of the body) and fastenings (casing) of the spare wheel on the tailgate. On this, let me take my leave: the rest is new.

A new frame (stepped, lightweight), to which the body is attached via an eight-point system. The hood, doors, wings are made of aluminum alloy, which allowed to throw about 170 kg of weight.

Specifications of the new Mercedes-Benz AMG G63:

  • The engine is a biturbo V8.
  • Turbines are dual-flow twin-scroll.
  • Power - 585 HP
  • The maximum torque is 850 Nm.
  • Acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h - 4.5 seconds.
  • Transmission - 8-speed automatic.
  • Weight - 2485 kg.
  • Ground clearance - 240 mm to the bridge, 270 - to the crankcase.
  • Combined fuel consumption is 13.1 liters per 100 km.
  • The drive is full.

By the way, the standard G500, without fine-tuning AMG, produces 422 hp. and 610 Nm of maximum torque, which is also, you see, not bad. In eco mode, you can turn off four cylinders so that gasoline does not flow “into the pipe” while idle in traffic jams. The drive here is naturally full, with a 60:40 thrust ratio in favor of the rear axle.

Note to brutal men: the girl came up with the new G-class interior. This is Lilia Chernyaeva from Bulgaria. Live with it.

As for the interior, here the designers managed to tamper with premium materials, a fully electronic dashboard and a multimedia system screen, as well as chrome and carbon inserts that look very appropriate here.

Combined with an S-class steering wheel and modern door panel trim - beauty. In addition, the interior has become wider by 12 cm. Given that the gear selector has moved to the steering wheel, the driver, when compared with the previous generation, is located royally.

How the new Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 rides
This is where a certain term that auto-journalists often use, and not only in their vocabulary, is “taste”. The fact is that "Gelik" now is not a mad stool with a wooden front suspension, where, recall, until recently there was a continuous bridge. This is now a very, very comfortable car in terms of ride and cornering behavior.

We did not drive him into the mud. Yes, and why? Do we have many such swamps and swamps? Unlikely. As for the regime track / gravel / soil, everything is in order here. On the track, the car is stable, on gravel and soil - it is going well. If you take into account the new "soft" suspension, then it is well added and comfortable, quiet. No hill movement assistants. We switch the modes of movement, and the car confidently goes through the hills and bumps. Steel suspension springs, it would seem, do not give hope for smoothness, but the SUV is more interesting than some colleagues with air suspension. This is definitely a victory for Mercedes engineers.
