Hello! You are on my channel, thank you for reading it! Every positive comment will warm my heart. The article is subjective and expresses the personal opinion of the author.

First you need to thoroughly understand what the cat is sterilized for and what the operation itself is.

Often, serious cat health problems can only be resolved surgically. For example, with advanced endometriosis, uterine and ovarian tumors, medication is often not effective, then sterilization is the only option.

In addition to medical indications, owners who wish their pet did not bring offspring sterilize the animal. There are many opinions for and against this, but the owner himself must decide.

Cat sterilization is not considered a complex operation. The procedure can last up to one and a half hours and does not require the participation of the owners.

There are several ways an animal can be sterilized:

  • Tug of fallopian tubes
  • Removal of only the uterus without ovaries (hysterectomy)
  • Removal of the uterus and ovaries completely (ovariectomy)

Operations to remove the uterus and ligation of the fallopian tubes have significant drawbacks, since the ovaries are still fulfilling their purpose, which means that the cat will have a need for reproduction for a whole month and will interfere with its owners with loud meow. In addition, if you do not remove the ovaries, there is a risk of false pregnancy.

Most often, ovariectomy is performed, that is, removal of the uterus with ovaries. Ovariectomy allows you to suppress the production of hormones and stop sex drive.

Rules for caring for a cat after sterilization

After sterilization, the cat should be carefully delivered home, it is best to go by car or taxi. In order not to damage the pet, it should be carried in a carrier or in a bag with a hard bottom, laid with a cloth or a special diaper, it will be useful to cover the animal or even put a heating pad. Cats usually sleep or doze for a couple of hours after sterilization.

It is advisable to spend the first few hours next to your darling, monitor her condition, surround with attention and care more than usual.

About 24 hours after the operation, the cat will not be active, her appetite may disappear, and her condition will be depressed. Vomiting and uncontrolled urination may sometimes occur. This effect is exerted by the remnants of the preparations under which the operation was performed, so there is nothing to fear, this will pass. However, if the symptoms persist on the second day, it is better to consult a veterinarian.

It is essential that the pet is at rest. It will be right to put the cat in a quiet and warm place. Due to a temporary violation of thermoregulation, the animal freezes, the skin may seem cool, but there is nothing to worry about, this condition will not last long and the animal will soon return to its normal temperature.

The appetite after the operation will be depressed, and thirst, on the contrary, will increase, so you should make sure that the cat has access to clean water. If the appetite does not appear in a day, you need to urgently take the cat to the vet's appointment.

It’s best to feed a cat with a high-quality diet food for the first time, it will be useful to add good vitamins to it. Enhanced nutrition is very important for postoperative recovery of the body.

Do not forget about the preventive care. On the belly of the animal there will be a small seam that needs to be processed several times a day. To do this, moisten gauze or a cotton swab with 3% hydrogen peroxide and gently rub along the seam, after which you need to smear the seam with greens. The seam should be dry, not smell and fester. To avoid licking the seam, you should wear a special blanket for the cat.

Sometimes veterinarians prescribe a prophylactic course of antibiotics, which must be pierced by a cat, in accordance with the recommendations of a doctor.

All these easy procedures, as well as your care and attention, will help the cat easily survive the postoperative period and recover quickly.
