Prejudices about psychologists

Perhaps a specialist in any field, having some experience, begins to think that things that seem to him elementary and obvious, known to all around.

There is such and in psychology, in including I have. Therefore, today's post was born after discussing another similar topic with a friend and how he said: "Write about it in the blog!", and not because I myself came up with the idea to write it :)

There is such a prejudice that normal people do not turn to psychologists and psychotherapists: "what am I, a psycho or something?!"

And so much has already been written and said about it that it seems as if this myth simply should not have remained a place in the public consciousness.

Or maybe I just really want our society to have matured to understand the benefits of turning to psychologists and stop considering it "the privilege of the abnormal."..

Such beliefs, we often meet even have coming to us the customers ("we'll See, until then sunk, to a psychologist/therapist here I go"), not to mention how many people believe in this myth and because psychologists are not drawn until warmed up completely.

And every time I hear, " I thought normal people didn't need psychologists," it surprises me a little.

I have an answer to that myth. In order to consult a psychologist, you need:

1) IQ level is not below average (in fact, the vast majority of my clients are people with a fairly high level of intelligence, above average). Because to understand that something is wrong, you need brains to analyze the situation, correct conclusions and then make the right decision.

2) Awareness. Clients are usually those who think about life, about the structure of their inner world, about the mechanisms of interaction between people, about motivation, relationships; who are attentive to their feelings and reactions, their behavior and thoughts.

3) Courage. In my opinion, to admit that something is wrong with me or my life, you need a certain courage and honesty to yourself.

4) the Desire to change life for the better. Clients psychologist-it's not just people who are dissatisfied with something. These are people who need to develop. Live a full life, build deep relationships with others, achieve results, realize your potential, build a career/business or Vice versa learn to relax and fully relax, enjoying every moment.

In my opinion, a person with such a set of qualities can hardly be called abnormal. And the opposite example: people with psychopathy, for example, for psychological help almost do not apply.

This does not mean that every normal person goes to a psychologist, but definitely means that the trip to the psychologist does not speak about abnormality, rather the opposite.

There is a half-joking saying among psychiatrists: "There are no healthy, there are underexamined." Of course, in terms of psychiatry, this is more a joke than the truth. But in terms of psychology-absolute reality.

We all have our own cockroaches. Just someone who understands and "to train them", and someone not. I'd rather be among the first.

Yet for some reason, appeal to the psychologist is considered shameful (kind of like "he failed") or "happy" (think of a problem on an empty place).

In previous posts I already not times perhaps mentioned, that "cope himself" with his psychology man can only until a certain level. His psychological defenses wouldn't let him go any further. Not because something is wrong with a person, but because that's how our psyche works. Therefore, I have my own therapist, with whom I work as a client, despite a sufficient amount of knowledge, skills and professional experience.

As for "bliss," of course, if a person feels bad, it is his reality, regardless of what is happening in the external reality. And to deal with this inner reality, there are specially trained people - psychologists. And to tell the person that he "did not invent problems from scratch" because he has a family, work, helps exactly 0% of cases. The efficiency is not very high, as you can see.

I would like to summarize as follows:

If you notice problems with which it is impossible to understand independently, address to experts of the profession which is specially for this purpose existing. That's what normal people do, isn't it?
