OK. that sounds a bit selfish, of course. But yes, basically it is my changing table, because my husband recently stated aptly: "Huh, is the diaper pail already full again? I wound the baby first! ". Haha, yes, the other 100 times I have done so. But it's not bad either. Because it is super cute, the little creature, when the diaper is not full to the neck and you do not know how to change the best.
What I learned after 3 children
We do not need a nursery. At least not in the first 12 months, because the baby sleeps best with us, the parents in the bedroom, close, so we hear all the sounds quickly. So basically we just took care of the baby crib and a practical changing table. And yes, the changing table should be mainly practical and big enough, because you need it constantly, at least six times a day or more.
And I also learned that after 2 children: I do not need so much on the changing table. Everything should be at hand, so on top or below but under close, so you do not have to carry the baby even cumbersome semi-attracted by the area.
What do you really need on the changing table?
A changing mat: The changing mat should be big enough and have a soft cover, so that the baby feels really well. I still have some interchangeable covers, luckily, because our baby girl is a real spit child.
A heat lamp: At first I thought, we do not need them. We live in the new building, our bedroom is under the roof and the summer begins. But, one actually forgets how small and fragile babies are. They just feel so much more comfortable with warmth. You really need the lamp. We have one attached to the wall. But there are also heat lamps that you put down.
Many diapers: I have left on the side of a box in which I have enough diapers at hand. My little son is always allowed to sort them. This is his new job, as he still can not wrap 😉 This time, the third child, I've chosen Lillydoo. Poupette has already tried it and was thrilled, so that the decision was made easier for me. You know, babies need no pollutants in the diaper area and there are the Lillydoo diapers very far forward, without parabens, glyphosate, dioxin, phthalates, perfumes, chlorine or hormone-active substances. They are great for the delicate baby skin.
Washcloths and water or wet wipes: In the beginning I only cleaned the diaper area of my children with water (and a washcloth). Now I have to say with the third child, I became lazy and used wet wipes from the beginning. I also have them from Lillydoo, because they are without additives and very mild for the baby babies.
Baby Care: You do not really need that much. I have a welschutz cream from Weleda, my favorite disinfectant spray from Dr. med. Bronner, a baby nail scissors and a fever thermometer. Later there is also a wind-and-weather cream for the face and sunscreen but at the beginning you just need very little.
Baby underwear: In the boxes under the changing table I have sorted the clothes in the current size, so that I can get there quite fast, so bodysuits, panties, shirts, sweaters and socks and another box with jacket, hat and all things for outside. At the bottom I have 2 boxes with the diaper supply and towels, burp cloths, sleeping bags, sheets.
I've noticed this time, I just need very little for a newborn, because they grow extremely fast. Already after 6 weeks, the first bodysuits and panties are almost too small and even from the first diaper size our baby has already grown out.
P.S. Since July 6, 2017, there is a one-time action from Lillydoo. For the first time Lillydoo is commercially available for testing and indeed in Germany in many dm drugstores. There are no diaper subscriptions, but individual test packages with 10 diapers and 15 wet wipes for 3.90 euros. So look out, because the supply is limited. In each participating dm there is only one display with test packages. Otherwise, you can also order the test packages online as usual.
