A new compact crossover from the Japanese automaker Toyota has entered the Russian market. We took the opportunity and tested the car somewhere between the Krasnodar Territory and the Rostov Region.
It’s worth starting with one of the most important points, on which the attitude to the Toyota brand in Russia and in the world market largely depends. Already from whom, but from the Japanese something from the area of "wow" can not be expected. Yes, there was a nice new Land Cruiser 200 and a new Camry. But all this is part of the discreet design of Japanese architects of the automotive exterior. And here - here, the Toyota C-HR compact crossover came out so that Picasso smokes on the sidelines. Or not?
Exterior news
The appearance of the new cross is probably the most discussed and original component of the model. Even the most stubborn skeptics opened their mouths in surprise at the presentation of the model two years ago in Geneva. Is it a Toyota? No, it cannot be like that.
But I still had to believe and accept this fact. The Japanese encroached on something that they themselves had recently refused, on a youth audience. There was a Supra, then a GT 86, the previous Corolla. Models somehow attracted young people into the ranks of brand buyers. But marketers decided that "somehow" did not suit them, abandoned the sport in the model line and made the "Corolla" a boring sedan for housewives and senior citizens.
Time passed, and someone in the marketing department’s office apparently realized that Toyota was still missing at least a little smells like teen spirit. Kurt Donaldovich’s Toyota has never been seen in the garage, but it smells very much like “tin spirit” from the exterior of the brand-new C-HR. And if we discuss the specifics, it seems that the designer of this miracle asked the young audience who to focus on in the lines - Aivazovsky or Picasso. Youth answered: "Let there be Picasso."
Marketers understood, in general, that it would be necessary to pour a few berries in the buttocks. How to do it? To release a new model with a design “for contemporary art”. Done.
Impressions of the Toyota C-HR
Here we summarize everything related to the driving performance of the car. Of course, this is not an SUV and is unlikely to be able to drop into some jungle. In terms of belonging to the class, this is a real urban crossover.
What I want to note right away is excellent exchange rate stability. Up to 200 km / h on the highway, it goes great. Moreover, it slows down well, and this is even more important than acceleration. I put a plus, like, etc.
For reference: the name C-HR literally stands for Crossover High-Rider.
Outside the city, this citizen also behaves quite confidently. On the ground, gravel and other non-asphalt surfaces, a short base saves him. Effect a la our Soviet "Niva". Only there also mud baths are shown, but here - no. Still light and preferably dry soil is recommended. For a country house, village or cottage in our southern regions - enough. Plus, there is a sharp, “knocked down” suspension and a good balance of rolls in corners. There are no claims on handling to the car as a representative of this class as a whole.
Also worth noting is a very boring Japanese interior. Here, as well as outside, the designers went through a file of ideas on the boredom of being, which was previously observed in the interiors of Toyota.
