Netgear offers a Nighthawk range of WiFi repeaters. Today we tested the EX7500 (also called X4S), a model located between the EX7300 and the EX7700. Certified Wi-Fi AC2200 tri-band, and associated with Fastlane3 home technology for optimization of WiFi speeds, will it do as well as it promises?

Presentation

It is in a black cardboard packaging where the product is visible on the front panel that Netgear offers its product. As usual, the back side informs the main features in several languages, the specificities are found on one side and the product details on the other. Once unpacked we discover the repeater as well as paper documentation in several languages (quick guide). The essential is there, only remains to admire it from every angle.

At Netgear, every repeater has its own design. And this X4S does not derogate from the rule with its own personality and its white color. With a little imagination, we could recognize the mouth of the mask of Darth Vader (but in white). Apart from that, he remains rather sober with flat faces and wide bevels.

It is on the top that are located the five information LEDs, namely the connection to the router, its power state, the presence of a 2.4Ghz connection, the distribution of the repetition and the presence of a 5Ghz connection. These LEDs illuminate in blue, but some may turn red depending on the connection status. If the lighting of these LEDs is powerful, Netgear offers fortunately in its interface to turn them off in operation. The high and low slices, as well as the back, are provided with ventilation grids, which will create a natural ventilation during the operation of the repeater to avoid overheating. The only button is on the left edge and is used to turn the device on and off, but also to activate the WPS function. Next door is the small reset switch.

It should be noted that this X4S is a repeater that does not offer a female mains socket to connect an electrical device. Rather bulky (and quite wide), it is possible that the (s) plug (s) adjacent (s) (on a block with several plugs) is difficult to use (s) depending on the connector to connect.

Installation

The installation of this X4S is very easy and is done quite quickly, of course we find a very pronounced family in its interface with that of his brother the Netgear X4, however, this so-called superior model is a little faster (application configurations and reboots).

Just like the EX7300, it is simply necessary to plug it into a power outlet, wait for it to be started and connect to its interface to follow its wizard step by step.

To set it up, the procedure is the same as that of his little brother: you have to select the Wifi network to extend (or 2 Wifi networks if your main transmitter broadcasts on 2 bands: 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz), fill in the password then wait a few tens of seconds until the new configuration is applied. It's as simple as that.

Subsequently, the disconnect will not lose its configuration, and it can simply be plugged into any electrical outlet located in a signal receiving area to extend.

For setting up "Wifi Mesh", simply leave the "Enable unique Wifi name" function activated during the setting. You can also assign a different name to the new (x) signal (s) repeated, for that it will be enough to disable this function ("Enable the unique WiFi name"). Subsequently, it will be necessary to be careful to connect a good Wifi network.
