restpStory of brown bear and squid
Not long ago, I went to Kate Mai National Park in Alaska, USA, to shoot brown bears that prey on squid. I have put together the photos in these two days and share them with everyone here.
Alaska: The Story of Brown Bear and Squid
The Alaska Brown Bear is probably the largest bear in the world. It is more than three meters long and weighs six or seven hundred kilograms. It is bigger than a polar bear. But this does not prevent it from having an agile skill. If you run it, you can reach 56 kilometers per hour, and there is a pair of claws that are one meter long and you can kill a deer in one hand. This is not good news for me: during the filming, I often walk through the woods and come to the river. In the process, the chance of meeting a brown bear is equivalent to seeing in Beijing street. The probability of an Audi car. In fact, I have a face and face a couple of meters away from the bear several times. I used the lens to face it. But the experience is: When you encounter a bear, don't worry, don't run fast, otherwise it is more dangerous. Of course, the bears I met were almost full of squid in the river, and I was not interested in me.

Every summer and autumn, when the squid who grew up in the Pacific Ocean traveled to the upper reaches of the freshwater river where they were born to lay eggs, the brown bears who were hungry to fill their stomachs with grass and grass would focus on the river bank. Enjoy the salmon meal.
The squid born here, when it is about one year old, will go down the river and swim to the Pacific Ocean, where there is more food and nutrition. They have to live in the sea for about 4 years. When they grow strong enough and mature, they will follow the original path and return to the place where they were born to breed offspring. This is their instinct. The migration of this collective return of squid can be said to be a feat in nature: the road to migration is long and arduous, and they have to go through thousands of kilometers of sea roads and more than 2,000 kilometers of rivers to reach the upstream spawning ground. This way, they will consume all the fat accumulated in the ocean, and even need to convert muscle fiber into energy to support themselves to swim back to their hometown.
And when they finally come back, they are often waiting for them a group of hungry bears.
The small waterfall in the river is an obstacle that the squid must overcome. The only way is to make a full leap forward and jump into the waterfall like a squid. For some less fortunate squid, when they fall, they don't fall into the water, but fall into the brown bear's mouth that has long been waiting for the waterfall. The clever brown bear has mastered the squid's habit, they only have to be open. With the mouth waiting on it, you can enjoy the "pie" that fell from the sky. It is effortless, and the squid in the air can't control your body.

This is a young bear, as if it was the first time to fish in the river. I watched it nervous. After catching the fish, I hurriedly ran to the shore to hide in the bushes and enjoy it alone. I am afraid that other bears will grab its fish. In fact, brown bears compete for each other's prey. According to my observation, after a strong male bear catches fish in the river, he often solves it on the spot. However, like this bear, he knows that he is not strong enough. After catching the fish, he will catch the fish and hide quickly.

This experienced old bear occupies the most advantageous position.
The squid learned the skills of returning on their long journey: they like to go up the river along the river, because the water flow is the slowest, and sometimes the countercurrent will become a downstream, so the most labor-saving. This brown bear is obviously familiar with the habit of squid, and it takes the lead first. I saw it this morning, the harvest is not small, much more than the other pairs of bears in the river.

This season, the river is shallow, just barely over the back of the squid. For the brown bear, it is convenient to use its fishing rod like a fishing rod. The only advantage for squid is its quantity.
