BEFORE THERE WAS NO OPPORTUNITY TO PAY THROUGH THE INTERNET. THERE WERE NO CREDIT CARDS, PAYMENT TERMINALS, ONLINE STORES. WITH THE TIME, THE SELLERS UNDERSTANDED THAT IT IS EASY EASIER TO POST THEIR GOODS ON THE SITE AND TO GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUYERS TO ORDER THEM AT THE HOUSE. IT WAS UNDERSTANDABLE ONLY HOW PAYMENT WILL BE PASSED.
After 30 years of the Web’s existence, the situation has changed very much. Buying something over the Internet is in the order of things. Pay online, too. What are safer ways to pay, how to distinguish a real store from a fake one?
Types of Internet Payments
There are many payment methods available online. Let's consider each of them.
Cash Courier
This is the easiest way. You pay for the goods the amount agreed in the order when the courier brings it to your home. Delivery is also often paid. And this can be explained - because the courier also needs a salary.
Credit card payment
One of the most popular and fastest options. Today, about 15% of online purchases are paid with a card. Almost everyone has at least one bank card. Modern online stores make it possible to pay for goods using at least two of the most popular payment systems - Visa and MasterCard. This is pretty easy to do. Enter the card number, its code CVV2 / CVC2 (three digits on the back of the card), click the “finish” button - the money has arrived at the seller’s account, the goods have been bought. This is a convenient way, if you remember the safety rules. We’ll talk more about them.
Payment by electronic money
In Russia, bank cards appeared in use much later than in other countries. And therefore, electronic money was invented for online payments. Surely you heard about them - WebMoney, Yandex.Money, Paypal, RBK Money. First, people must exchange ordinary money for electronic money. Previously, there were even special exchange points where such an exchange was made. After that, they can pay via the Internet. Electronic money was simply transferred from your account to the seller’s account in the same way as in the case of a credit card - instantly. The inconvenience is that each time you had to pay extra for the transfer of funds. Add to this what you had to install special software on your computer, register in the system, replenish your "electronic wallet" with the so-called "electronic cash".
Payment through terminals
The most famous terminals are Qiwi, Eleksnet, Sberbank terminals, in Moscow and the region - terminals of the ICD (Moscow Credit Bank). Surely you saw payment terminals in crowded places - in shopping centers or at bus stops. They look like ATMs, but unlike ATMs they do not give out money, but only accept it. It’s convenient to pay through them: on the on-screen menu you select the service you want to pay for, specify the necessary details (for example, personal account number or phone number). Then you deposit cash by sequentially inserting bill by bill into a bill acceptor, that’s all. The terminal must issue a payment receipt. However, when paying through the terminal you will be charged a commission.
How not to fall for the scammers
When faced with the theft of money via the Internet, you regret that you didn’t know elementary ways to protect yourself. Moreover, scammers are on the alert and come up with new ways to steal money: they hack pages, steal PIN codes and personal data.
How to protect yourself
First tip
Never tell anyone your personal details and card PIN. Even if a person calls you and introduces himself as a bank employee, or sms comes in with a request to write a PIN code, call back by number or send a photo card. Money thieves do not know your personal data. Imagine what gift you will give them, laying out all the information about yourself. By the way, online stores do not require a PIN card. Keeping such information is best away from the bank card itself.
Second tip
Carefully study the website of the online store. Some "craftsmen" specifically create sites to steal other people's money, copying well-known online stores. If the price of the goods seems suspiciously low to you or only good reviews on the site - this should be alarming. Look for information about the store, read reviews about it on the Web.
Third tip
It is recommended to pay for purchases only from your computer. On a foreign computer may be special programs that read information. It is not difficult to steal your data for a professional. If you still made a purchase through someone else's computer, then after that, exit all possible programs and delete all your data.
Fourth tip
The virus is another way to steal money. Install antivirus software on your computer or tablet, and update it regularly. If the theft still happened, immediately contact the bank or the payment system.
