One of the most striking mysteries of nature — it falls quite regularly "frog rain".
This is when from the sky to the ground pours a fair, sometimes literally exorbitant number of frogs, often (but not always) it is accompanied by a short torrential rain.
Skeptics, trying to explain these unnatural events, say that the frogs did not fall out of nowhere, but were simply hidden by lush vegetation; the rain seemed to wash them out of hiding and made visible, creating the illusion that they fell from the sky during the rain.
However, there are many cases where it is impossible to doubt that the frogs really fell from the sky. These include this story.
Around 1902, my grandmother Gertrude Timmins (née Griffin), then eight years old, was walking with her mother Mary Griffin in a field near what is now West Bromwich in the West Midlands. Suddenly it began to rain, and she and her mother opened their umbrellas, but suddenly Gertrude heard heavy objects fall on the dome of her umbrella.
Sticking out her head, she was surprised to see that the noise was made by small frogs, which, falling from the sky, fell on the umbrella, then jumped on it and jumped to the ground. The girl was frightened, but her mother explained to her, as a matter of course, that it was only a frog rain, and that it would soon be over.
The fact that the frogs had gathered on the dome of the umbrella made it impossible to think that the rain had merely revealed the frogs hiding in the grass. Since there were no buildings or trees nearby from which frogs could fall, it must be admitted that they did fall from the sky. This dramatic incident made such a lasting impression on my grandmother that until her death in 1994 at the age of 99, she was able to tell about it in detail.
One rainy Sunday in June 1979, Vida Mcwilliam saw an endless stream of small green frogs running across the lawn around her Bedford home. Then she was even more surprised to find that all the bushes were covered with frog spawn, which undoubtedly proved that this time the unexpected guests came down from heaven.
For a change, the frogs that 'fell' on June 30, 1892 in Mosley, Birmingham, during a terrible thunderstorm were white.
A rain of bright pink or red frogs were first registered in Glosten-wider in 1988 and has since fallen in other parts of England.
Most likely, such color changes are caused by genetic mutations.
