How to make a child read?

How to make a child read? - this question often arises in parents. But this is initially the wrong statement of the question. Unfortunately, parents can not always put themselves in the place of the child. What feelings arise in a person when he is forced to do something? Opposition, of course. Even if the child initially does not mind reading, as soon as he is told to do it, then immediately there is a desire to refuse “out of harm." In fact, resistance is a natural reaction.

The fact is that the wording says a lot about what methods we will use. If we formulate this question as " force”, then on a subconscious level, we will do just that: to teach, to blackmail and to put pressure on the child. The result is the opposite.

The question should be phrased differently. “How to interest a child?”.

Specifically for such cases, I have developed a universal plan, or rather a pattern, by which to act in order to arouse the child's interest in reading. Let's begin.

1. Definition of purpose

It makes no sense to accustom the child immediately to the classical and” complex " literature. The matter is that in classical literature “eternal themes” which though are useful rise, but while outside the sphere of interests of the majority of children. This means that children can read such literature only mechanically, constantly forcing themselves. If you want to understand what a child feels, then try to read a textbook on "Sopromat".

Before reaching such literature, a person must pass certain stages. Learning to read should go from simple to complex. If we want a child to love reading, the very first thing to achieve is to form a belief in him that “reading is interesting.”

How to form this belief? It is useless to tell the child about it and in every possible way to admonish him. The child must learn this in practice, independently convinced of this. To do this, just slip him an interesting book.

However, the fact is that the concept of “interesting” is different for everyone. How to make it so that it was interesting to the child?

2. Analysis of the child's interests

Many parents begin to slip something that “should be interesting to children”, that is, their own thoughts on this matter. Usually, this is some ancient fairy tales, or something that parents themselves were interested in reading as a child. And often miss the choice.

I propose the following method. You must first observe what subjects the child is interested in. What kind of movies does he watch? What cartoons?

Literature should be about the same direction as the movies. It does not matter that it is information garbage. The main thing is to teach the child to receive information not only from the TV or computer, but also from printed materials.

For example, if a child likes “Star wars”, you can buy him a book on the subject. Hundreds of books have been written on this subject, which significantly expand the Star Wars universe.

In our time, after the release of a successful film, immediately goes a lot of books on its subject. Use it.

3. What if the child does not read at all?

It may be that the child immediately begins to yawn as soon as he sees some text longer than a page. However, we all remember how fond of childhood pictures. Propose a do the next maneuver. Need to find comics and book on one and the same subject. The topic should be interesting to the child.

Look what's going on. Child reads comics, and can and not one. He is passionate about the theme, eager to continue, but another comic is not. But there is a book on the same subject. I think that quite a few children will be able to resist the temptation to stay a little more in the world of dreams.

Next, parents only need to throw the child books on the same subject. After reading 3-4 books the child has already formed the need to read. For him it will be one of the ways of entertainment.

4. How to slip children books?

Many parents come from the store with the announcement " We bought you books." This is the wrong approach. He didn't ask for it, but you did. So you're pushing him. Means need to resist.

You don't have to announce anything. You just need to put them in a prominent place. You can say that you want to give these books to some other child and ask the child's opinion about their "quality". Give him such a responsible task. But in any case, you can not push. The main thing is not to cause jealousy in the child. To do this, he also needs to buy something, but not a book.

A child can walk around these books for a week or a month, but sooner or later he will become bored and interested in them. Unless you screw it up with “pressure.”

5. How to increase the level of books?

Modern literature is very diverse. There are many transitional options between genres. This means, that there is primitive " fantasy”, and there is “fantasy”, which contains philosophical information on level classics.

It may well be that the child will be interested in the book is a philosophical aspect.

Discuss with your child liked the book. However, try not to criticize the books that the child liked. It could demotivate him.

Note those moments that the child liked and advise more serious literature that addresses the same problems. This will not only develop a craving for reading, but also significantly bring you closer to the child.

6. Create a " club”

You can try to form a craving for reading and other children with whom your child communicates. If you succeed, the children will have common interests on the topic of reading. They will exchange books and discuss them. You just have to throw them a good literature.
