Khor Virap Monastery
The first point of our trip was the legendary Khor Virap monastery, located 30 km from Yerevan. Our eyes first opened mount Ararat, so carefully masked all this time in the clouds! Arriving to Khor Virap, we were asked 1000 drams (about 132 rubles.) for Parking cars (and this is the maximum price tag for Parking), and the entrance to the complex itself is free. Be prepared for a large number of tourists. The most buzz is that you can climb everywhere, touch everything, no one forbids anything! Inside the Church is of course all strictly: the scarf on her head and closed her knees (accepted women in pants), inside churches to take pictures / video, somewhere generally prohibited, somewhere very judgmental look, although there because of the atmosphere not particularly want to photograph. Cons of visiting such attractions without a guide - you do not know the mysterious stories of every corner and stone, but how much time you want and where you want to spend — is your own master.
Noravank Monastery
The next point of the route — what to see in Armenia was the Noravank monastery. The way to it lay through the village of Areni. This is the only place where so many sell just household: fruits, marshmallows, any combustible fluid in bottles from-under mineral water, and still many-many just in bins. Liquid to buy was afraid, but bought the peach and plum pastes for 1,000 drams (about 132 USD), and a jar of wild honey, with honeycomb — 4000 dram (around RUB 528). Noravank won my heart forever and is in the top 3 beautiful places I have seen in my life. The perfect combination of man-made and natural beauty. One road leads to the monastery through a narrow gorge of red fantastic rocks, 8 km long! Entrance is free, Parking 200 AMD (about 27 rubles.) Definitely advise to visit!
The Waterfall Of Shaki
For lunch, we chose a restaurant to the left of the entrance to the gorge, there is a swimming pool, several slides and a waterfall. Now, they say, " all that glitters is not gold." During the trip, I was once again convinced of this, as this restaurant was the most tasteless food in Armenia. To spend the night we had to come to the glorious city of Goris, so on the way stopped at the waterfall Shaki, and I'll tell you, just a breath of fresh air in 38 degrees), a minimum of tourists, maximum freshness! It's like being transported to another dimension, like a piece of jungle. Entrance and Parking are free.
Armenian Stonehenge — Stonehenge
Well, in the end of the first day of independent travel to Armenia, we visited the Armenian Stonehenge — Stonehenge. Honestly, the story I don't know, tell it not to anyone, I was on my way, but after seeing somehow was not impressed. Also all free.
We spent the night in Goris at the Noah hotel. We arrived tired, hungry and overflowing with emotions, but there was nowhere to spend the night, booking options were more expensive than 1600 rubles, in the end we decided to go to hotels on the spot, and find out everything. My husband went to the hotel Noah, there is a price tag-18000 AMD / day (about 2373 rubles), and the hotel across the street-14000 (about 1845 rubles), but our goal was 10500 (about 1384 rubles), and now we were about to go to a lousy hotel, suddenly the owner of Noah came up to Us and said: "Russian man"We were wary, wanted to leave, but he was very persistent, and we stopped at 10,000 drams (about 1318 rubles). And the room was really great: TV, refrigerator, large living room, balcony, and owns this hotel a great family.
