Reward with money

Reward money-good or bad? When it comes to the need to motivate other people to perform certain activities, always mentioned material encouragement. Consider the various aspects of this phenomenon.

Voice against the promotion money

Let's say you are an employer and want your employees to do better. The question arises: how to motivate them. Often inexperienced employers think that money itself is a means of motivation. This misconception. Money is just an addition to motivation.

Imagine that you decide to raise the salary of an employee who has achieved some success in his work. Perhaps it will really increase his efficiency for a certain time, but very soon he will begin to take the new salary for granted. And now try to take away from it this promotion... offenses and quite serious consequences Can begin.

Money promotion does not have flexibility. If you have increased your salary, there is often no reverse. If a salary increase leads to an increase in motivation, for example, by 15%, then a salary cut, conditionally, reduces motivation to work by 50%.

Vote for motivation with money

On the other hand, the lack of monetary reinforcement, still negatively affects motivation. For example, if an employee comes to the company who works twice as efficiently as others. If he does not raise his salary, he will soon be demotivated and will do one of two things: either leave the company or reduce the efficiency of his work to average. Why work harder if it doesn't do any good?

However, often a direct salary increase is not possible. First, because the team may begin unnecessary employer squabbles: why different salaries of employees in the same position. In this case, it is possible to encourage employees at the expense of a percentage of profits.

This method of monetary encouragement also has its drawbacks. Let's say we have a Manager, whose task is to find good customers, and for this he receives a percentage of sales profits. But gradually there may be such a situation that this Manager stops looking for new orders, but continues to receive interest for orders from previously cited customers.

It is clear that the employer is not satisfied with this situation, because he keeps the Manager to develop the direction and bring new orders. The Manager doesn't do it and turns into ballast.

In order to avoid such a situation, it is necessary to discuss with the Manager what period of time he will receive a percentage of the profit for the previously cited client.

Motivation by non-monetary means

As I said, money is just an addition to motivation. And what are the other ways to motivate employees?

The first thing that comes to mind is career prospects. If a person sees the prospect, he is often ready to work for the minimum wage, hoping to compensate for their efforts in the future.

Another means of motivation is a convenient work schedule for the employee. For example, many people are willing to work for a small salary, provided the opportunity to come later and leave work earlier. Someone may like business trips abroad or, conversely, the constancy and proximity of work.

Based on this, the Manager must individually approach each employee. Take into account the individual needs of each person working for him.

However, it should be borne in mind that non-monetary motivation without material reinforcement also works poorly. There must be a certain balance that every Manager finds himself.

Encouraging children with money

Often people try to apply the principles of adult motivation to children. This is a serious miscalculation. Encouraging children with money or valuables is a serious mistake in education, especially when it comes to learning.

First, most of the guidance adults give to children is in the best interests of the children themselves. Therefore, we develop the need for the child to receive encouragement for those things for which in adulthood he will not receive any encouragement. Therefore, it is likely that such a person will grow incapable of independent development.

Secondly, paying money to children for success, parents put themselves in a rather dangerous position, when there is a serious risk of demotivating children, if parents are not able to pay. They will get hurt by the children, because from the point of view of the child they violated the contract.

Third, adults often overestimate the value of money for children. The fact is that for an adult, money is a symbol of the standard of living and social status, for a child it is just an opportunity to buy some things that adults can give them. As a result, the effectiveness of such encouragement is almost zero (for children).
