That feeling when it's better than Alan Wake

Оглавление

Introduction

Perhaps everyone was waiting for a masterpiece from Remedy after their unconditionally successful game Alan Wake and additions to it. The game, released back in 2010, is still in a warm place in the heart of any self-respecting gamer. Players around the world are still waiting for the story of the writer Alan Wake to continue, but the problem is that Remedy studio releases a completely new product that has nothing to do with the Alan Wake series, but which, according to the creators themselves, was conceived precisely as a continuation of Alan Wake. The game that we will cover today in our review is called Quantum Break.

Plot

The game tells us the story of a protagonist named Jack Joyce. He is an ordinary young man with some criminal record who left his native Riverport a few years ago because of a quarrel with his brother William, who works in a large company headed by Jack’s childhood friend, Paul Cyrin. For many years they barely talked, but one day, a certain project Paul is under threat and he urgently needs to conduct his test. To do this, he calls Jack, whom he still trusts, but the experiment gets out of control and creates huge problems, the outcome of which can be a real End of the World. And only Jack is able to stop all this, because with an unsuccessful experiment, he got supernatural abilities and now he can control time. However, even in this case, time against him and his team remains a little more than a day to save the universe.

Gameplay

Quantum Break is an adventure third-person shooter game that is similar to Remedy’s past projects. In the arsenal of the protagonist, there are also several types of different weapons, starting with a pistol and ending with machine guns. However, unlike Alan Wake, here the main character also has superpowers that will open to the player as the story progresses. All these abilities will also allow us to pump for local experience points - chronons, which can be collected as you progress through each location, while collecting other interesting and not very interesting objects (for example, a bunch of notes, adding up the sequel to “War and Peace” ) One of the abilities of the protagonist, with whom we will meet will be freezing. As we know, Sean Ashmore dabbled in freezing before it became a Quantum Break, but here the essence of freezing is that we can freeze time itself within a certain area. For example, we can surround the enemy with a certain field inside which time does not go, shoot from there with a machine gun and as soon as the freezing time passes, all the bullets will fall into the stupid head of the enemy, making him a deadly bo-bo. Here.

Other abilities allow us to control time even more. In the list of everything else, we will have the opportunity to quickly move around the locations, leaving ala Barry Allen lightning and even a complete stop of time during which we can stun enemies in hand-to-hand combat while they stand motionless (we are not mean, the game is such ) or just move around the location, causing enemies to lose you. Thus, you can go behind the enemy’s back and when the watch again starts to put an automatic burst into it (not we are vile, the game is such x2).

Chronovision is a local counterpart to the eagle's eye from the Assassin’s Creed series, which allows us to see opponents through walls. Chrono explosions are capable of destroying almost all enemies after just a few seconds of holding the button to reserve the charge of the explosion. Chrono-protection allows you to create a kind of field around you that can withstand the onslaught of shots even with sniper rifles and improves your health if you were injured before. All these skills can be improved and pumped, however, in order to pump fully you will need to collect all the chronons to a single one, so you should not run through the game. But sometimes I feel like it, to be honest. Especially when you read the tones of various documents collected at a location. Yes, sometimes the recordings are very interesting and tell us the history of the whole world of the game and some of the characters separately, but sometimes they are just terribly boring documentation that gives the game not much sense. And, to be honest, in the end, collecting items can get a little annoying, but it will happen only at the very end, so go for it.

Sometimes, in the story, we will move forward and backward several times in time, so it will be very pleasant to see some locations a second time. Let's say an unfamiliar car is standing, we don’t know what kind of car it is, but in the end it turns out that we arrived on it after a few hours of play. Therefore, the plot is spelled out here to the smallest detail. But, honestly, a couple of points still remained unexplained to the end and, most likely, this is just the beginning of the sequel to the game. In Quantum Break itself there are many references to the Alan Wake series of a certain mysterious date - 2021, so who knows ...

Graphics and optimization

Despite numerous reviews regarding poor optimization on the PC, at the moment the game has already managed to acquire a couple of dozen patches and on the average computer it will go without any problems. Yes, there will sometimes be drawdowns, but they are extremely rare and do not create any special problems (except for the final battle, where the FPS sags most noticeably). Perhaps optimization is the main problem of the game, because it does not bring anything new in the graphic plan to the gaming industry. Besides the movie, maybe. But bad graphics can not be called either. It is great for 2016 and even further.

TV series

In addition to the game, sometimes we also have to watch a real series, where real actors play roles. It is very nice to see a character in the game, and then look at him in the series. By the way, it was performed here perfectly and sometimes even the series broadcast on federal channels cannot show such a result. The series "Quantum Break" can easily go without the game itself, but for the sake of completeness, it is still worth evaluating it. And in a couple of moments with the game, he still intersects. If you are fans of actors such as Sean Ashmore, Courtney Hope, Dominic Monaghan and Aidan Gyllen, then the series is definitely worth watching, although the characters of these actors appear here not so often, because the series tells a slightly different story.

General impressions and summary

You know, I enjoyed playing Quantum Break and never in a game did I want to quit. Fighting with the final boss, I played at half strength to stretch the game for at least another hour (because of which I constantly merged), I realized that having passed it, I would not see the sequel for the next few years. Great gameplay, excellent setting of the plot in the game and the series (the feeling when the actors and the main character were changed for the better), real concern for the characters and sympathy for their stories - all this is in Quantum Break. Perhaps for me personally this is the best game of recent years and the game that has become better than Alan Wake. It is definitely worth taking.
