To be honest, Argentina never entered my top 5 countries where I wanted to visit in the near future.
I had little idea what was interesting there and how huge it was. And also - where is the mysterious Ushuaia and what exactly from there cruises to Antarctica start.
But it so happened that the most normal tickets for our big South American trip that we found were in Buenos Aires. So I thought, ok. Uyuni and Machu Picchu, namely they made the limit of my American dreams, will not go anywhere. And she began to prepare.
And how much is there - the largest glacier, and amazing tracks, and impressive cities, and wine, and even steaks, mmmmm. There were, of course, disappointments, or rather, just expectations are too high and do not coincide with reality.
I decided to tell you about Argentina, collecting all the very best for me at 10 points. It turned out a crazy mix of nature, cities, food .... It seems to me that it is through such a mix that you can understand the country and discover it for yourself from different angles.
Without the same steaks, for example, an immersion experience would not be complete.
So,
1. Buenos Aires.
From the first minute, sitting in a taxi from the airport at night and looking at the monumental buildings and wide avenues in which we rushed, I realized that we would make friends with this city. How many things are there - colonial architecture, majestic buildings and wide avenues in the center and a bohemian atmosphere and cozy two-three-story houses literally a stone's throw from it in San Telmo.
The very old and colorful Mercado San-Telmo market, where I was ready to go almost every day.
Cafes hidden in the cozy passages of past centuries.
The space district of Puerto Madero skyscrapers and long walks along the promenade along the docks.
The fashionable Palermo district with the most stylish cafes and no less stylish residents.
Gorgeous restaurants and eateries in the market, which are almost equally tasty.
In general, the city is so diverse and many-sided, that returning the second, third time, you still get excited.
The only thing that annoys and spoils the impression is that you don’t feel safe there. Even living in the very center and turning a corner in the evening, you begin to look paranoid and try to speed up the pace. Maybe just prejudices, but the stories are so many different.
2. Сerro Campanario
This is the top of the mountain and the observation deck near Bariloche.
Arriving in the lake region, we finally understood the expression that Argentina is about nature, not about cities. Just forty minutes to get up and you're on the Cerro Campanario.
This view of the mountains and lakes National Geographic recognized as one of the best and coolest in the world. About a year ago, I even published it on my blog as Inspiration for travel. And recently, we finally saw it with our own eyes.
3. Coffee and alfahors
Who missed it, Alfahore is essentially two biscuit cookies doused with white or black chocolate with a filling between them.
I did not imbue the most important dessert in Argentina right away, on the very first day. I think you just need to know where to try.
And then there was Havanna, one of the largest coffee shop chains in Argentina. Having visited it once in Byres, I will look for it everywhere, in every new city, choose a table on the street, order Havanna coffee (with condensed milk at the bottom, perhaps nostalgia for Vietnamese coffee) and alfahore and just look at passers-by.
Here in Bolivia, I really miss them. They seem to be in the pastry shops, but very strange.
4. Circuito Chico is one of the most famous routes in the vicinity of Bariloche.
27 km to very beautiful places and view points. Among the lakes, mountains and forests. You can ride it on the bus, buying a tour at any agency. But we, of course, did not like this idea. And you can take bikes for the day, to which they give you a map of the area and tell you where to see something and how best to go.
