The first representatives of this genre were Dune II and Starcraft, who quickly found their fans. Nowadays, this genre has taken root well on mobile platforms, this is due to the fact that the castle’s defense quickly captures the player in his complete excitement of the inner world and at the same time does not require a long time to master game mechanics. We offer you mini reviews of a number of such games.
Anomaly warzone earth
When playing Tower-Defense, you often find yourself wondering “And why do I have to defend my castle all the time, instead of attacking someone else myself?” A similar idea occurred to the developers from Chillingo and they were able to bring it to life perfectly. Having abandoned the idea of copying hackneyed scripts, they created a game that turns the entire line of games upside down. To win the game, you must correctly plan the course for soldiers and equipment. Otherwise, you can buy new types of weapons or special abilities that will give noticeable superiority on the battlefield.
Final Fantasy Chrystal Defenders
This is one of the most challenging Tower-Defense games on Android and iOS. Square-Enix released a game based on its other brainchild, “Final Fantasy Tactics A2” for Nintendo-DS. The musical arrangement, just like graphic visualization, was completely adopted and transported to the “Chrystal Defenders”. The game features 12 maps, each has 3 difficulty levels and exactly 30 attacks await you on each map. The player has to place his soldiers, magicians, thieves and knights on dragons in the most advantageous positions. Before you find the right combination of defenders, you have to think hard, so this game is designed more for devoted fans of the genre than for beginners. Levels of difficulty vary among themselves by the possibility of applying some tactical features.
Fieldrunners
Fieldrunners was released by Subatomic Studios and belongs to the “Maze-Tower-Defense” genre. As it’s not difficult to guess from the name, in this game the enemy units (soldiers and military equipment) will try to get to your base along the shortest route. The playing field is quite spacious, so the ideal defense strategy would be to build a maze of defensive turrets. Sometimes your base will be raided, not raided, so the confused maze will not help here. At a later stage in the game, you will also have to run into a combat train. In general, the game makes it possible to feel like a real strategist on the battlefield.
Ninja td
Crazy Carpenter created a game that, in its visualization, was somewhat similar to manga: on thirty cards (six different cards in six unique worlds), the player will have to deal with beautifully animated monsters. Ninja Defenders, armed with projectiles, slowing nets and guns, will confront hordes of enemies. Souls of dead monsters turn into mana, but only a mage can collect it, and the higher its level, the more mana you will receive. You can purchase additional bonuses for received mana points, such as bombs, a whirlwind (returns the enemy to the beginning of the field) or a special field that increases the income from each killed monster. Using this tactic, you can very quickly raise funds to buy new warriors.
Guns´n´Glory
Guns´n´Glory will take the player to the era of conquering America. But it will not be conquered in the role of a civilian, but just the opposite: in the role of unshaven and toothless bandits. The prey of the villains will be harmless grandmothers, carts and workers in wide-brimmed hats. Unlike most games in the castle defense series, bandits can be freely moved around the playing field. Although the victims cannot resist the armed robbers, they quickly get away from the bandits, so the mobilization function of the bandits will be very useful. As the game progresses, new weapons will open, the crown will be a train with a Gatling machine gun, which will make a significant contribution to mobility and increased firepower. Improvement of characteristics for the gang is not provided, but it is possible to collect time-limited bonuses that increase damage or rate of fire.
Defender chronicles
“Defender Chronicles” is a mixture of Tower-Defense genres and strategy with role-playing elements. The player has several types of warriors at his disposal, placing them in specially designated places or “nests”, he needs to protect the castle from hordes of evil spirits: orcs, skeletons and flying dragons. For victory over each enemy, the treasury is automatically replenished with gold, which can be spent on buying new or improving existing units.
