Women's travels: 5 inspiring films

Back in the 19th century, a woman needed a father's or husband's permission to travel alone, or she had to impersonate a man. While the practical and legal aspects are easier now, public opinion is still often unable to cope with the fact that a girl is ready to go on her own for research or adventure. Reassemble yourself

The film is the answer to the question of what to do when life falls apart. The main character Cheryl's mother dies, the girl divorces her husband, sex and drugs do not help to forget, and rock 'n' roll has long disappeared from life. The decision that Cheryl makes is unexpected even for her: to walk the route of the Pacific Ridge - and this is 1800 km. Cheryl has no special training, and on the first day of the journey, a huge backpack literally presses her to the ground, like a beetle that can't turn over: a visual metaphor of how much extra we carry with us.

Next, of course, rubbed shoulders and bloody blisters - and poems, and unexpected help from people on the way, and memories that finally stop hurting. The closer you get to the end of the journey, the more Cheryl becomes himself - the more he wants to be. That's why we're going on our own, either for the weekend or for three months.

By the way, the film is based on a book, and the book, in turn, is based on a real story, so you can read the original source - "Wild. A dangerous journey as a way to find yourself" (Cheryl Strayed).

Leaving the house and coming home

Another real-life story that turned into a thrillingly beautiful movie. Robin Davidson decides to go through the deserts of Australia - 2700 kilometers to the Indian Ocean. This route is not spontaneous, and for the sake of a trip of 9 months, she first has to learn to work with camels - through the desert, she goes with them, and from time to time on the road meets with a photographer National Geographic, who makes a report on the journey.

Robin runs away from his grey life, deals with his childhood memories and his father's memories, goes through heat and drought, meets the natives and goes out to the ocean at the end of the road. A measured film that is even more impressive if you know that its events took place in 1977, when a woman going on her own was still not taken too seriously. The real Robin continued her research on nomadic peoples, her next big journey repeating the path of nomadic migration. Robin writes a lot about her trip, so if you're short of a single film, keep traveling in books.

"AMELIA"

AMELIA /2009

" TO BE THE FIRST

Amelia Erhart is the first pilot to fly the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. Aircraft and flights have been her passion since she first flew by plane, a flight that lasted 10 minutes but changed her life: she decided to be a pilot rather than a passenger. Amelia set records, wrote books, tried to attract more women to aviation and promoted airplanes as a means of transport. A successful career, a strong character and a strong desire for her dreams - of course, Amelia Erhart became the national heroine of the United States, and the disappearance of her plane during the attempt to fly around the world only added to her image of popularity. Of course, about such a woman should have made a movie sooner or later - and there was a biopic with Hilary Swank in the lead role. A movie for those who need a dream - and breathtaking views from the plane.

THE "TRAVELER"

Un Jeune Fille / 2013

TO FIND OUT YOUR STORY.

The main character Chantal leaves home: her mother is dead, and she herself is now going on the road. Her route is not mountains or deserts, nor is it a challenge to society or to overcome herself. Chantal's mother has always dreamed of going back to the same place on the Gaspe peninsula - with a photo of this beach the girl goes on her way. Canadian drama about the journey as a way to understand those who are no longer around and, conversely, the people who were accidentally met on the road. Gloomy landscapes and melancholic music complement the atmosphere - there are also such journeys.

"THE WILD VACATIONS"

SPRING BREAKERS /2012

GET OUT OF THE WAY.

A completely different movie in the end: college students are tired of boring life in the hostel and go on a trip on vacation. As in the American film about life in college, trash begins robberies and parties, drug dealers and weapons, "the worse, the better. In this road movie, the clichés of pop culture become a triumph of absurdity, grotesque and madness - it's not easy to survive in a shootout when you're wearing only a swimsuit, but the heroines manage to do it.
