Tips for successful rock fishing

Fishing in rock is one of the simplest modalities that exist in the world of sport fishing. In fact, many fans enjoy the thousands of places we have to carry out this hobby quietly at any time of the year, having good catches and doing the activity in a simple and enjoyable way. The stone fishing can be carried out from many points, both from a local pier in an afternoon or from paradisiacal destinations located in remote corners. But in order to be able to fish in rock with success we have to follow some of the advice and remember some considerations that appear next; only this way you will obtain that your day is fruitful.

Small fish

If you want to find small fish (something common when practicing rock fishing), it is best to carry out the task in the areas closest to the rocks. This is because this way with throwing some food (eg bread) or small baits, we can observe closely the movements of the fish, who do not hesitate to come closer to eat. The lighter the equipment, the better, especially if you intend to capture from further inside the catwalk. You don't need the launch to be too long, so the line shouldn't be overloaded. Another trick would be for fishing to take place at times when the tide is rising.

Big fish

This type of fish is found in areas further away from the shore. Therefore, the key is in the set we make. That is why the material we use is of vital importance. In fact, the rigs must be larger than for small fish, especially if we fish at the end of the dock. We must choose a breakwater that goes several meters into the sea so that the catches are of considerable size and more varied. This area, not so populated with people, makes the most fearful fish go outside. We must place ourselves precisely at the tip of the jetty.

The best technique for fishing is jig casting. As an example, we can join a Hart Bony jig, since it is one of the most effective for breakwaters. We must alter short casts with lengths so that the more clever fish do not realize that we are trying to deceive them. Remember also that, when throwing the rod, the angler must be supported to avoid falling into the water; something obvious but always worth remembering, especially to those who, in addition to fishing in rock, alternate between different modes of fishing.

Throws that endanger close people should also be avoided, due to hitting with other rods or hooks, something quite common in crowded breakwaters that has even led to the prohibition of activity from these, especially in ports.

What material to use to fish from a breakwater?

The material to be used, as we have said in the previous section, will depend mainly on the type of catch we intend to obtain. Fishing rods should always be at least 2 meters long for small fish and about 4 meters to catch larger fish, as we need to make somewhat longer casts. In the case of fishing lines, the rods may have several to have greater range of species to reach. If we want to catch small fish, they must have lines ranging from 6 to 8 kilos. On the contrary, for more voluminous and dense species, we must go from 10 to 24 kilos, playing with different combinations to have more help in the moment of taking out the fish.

Other important accessories are buoys and plummets. In the case of faster waters, those that have the shape of a sphere should be used, as they are the easiest to handle. It is also possible to use nets, launched when the waves are passing and removed instantly. The bait used will also be absolutely conditional, so you can use small species of live shellfish, such as shrimp or crabs, in addition to the typical earthworm baits, you can also use half-hard bread, where we incrust double or triple hooks to expand the catch.

Of course, this is only recommendations, since each angler must select the equipment that interests him most and with which he feels most comfortable; you can't imagine the surprises that we sometimes get with equipment that, in theory, are not so adequate!

Better species and dates to fish from breakwaters

In summer, we have a lot of species to fish from a rock. Among them, for example, we can find sea bream and sea bream. The latter is recommended to catch especially during the day, between 10 and 21 hours. Afterward, you can also fish for anchovy. This one is great for sports events, due to the jumps it makes at the time of capture and its fighting spirit, creating a really beautiful scene. In the summer nights, the serge will be the most localized since they approach the zones where the changes of wind or the beats of the sea take place.

The white permit is a species that begins fishing in April and can be extended until November. It moves in large shoals in order to catch smaller fish, so if we locate these fish, we can get more than one. The black bass also chooses these dates to appear, but, above all, you will see it at the beginning of summer. Its great enemy is excess heat, so if we look for it in August, we will have to do it in deeper areas.
