Many meditators can be given visualization by themselves, and they can quickly go through all the stages or even start at once from the last stage. But some of us need to focus, concentrate, or use controlled visualization better.

Visualization works it's scientifically proven
If you're looking for scientific evidence that the visualization of desires works, here they are: in a study at the University of Michigan, more than 200 emergency department patients received instructions on how to take care of their wounds at home. Half of the patients received text instructions. The rest received the same text, but with pictures. Scientists tracked down who was more successful in following the instructions. The results were amazing:
46% of the people who received the text with the pictures were more familiar with all the instructions and followed them. Of those who received only the text, only 6% took proper care of the wounds.
