Waiting for the new year holidays is filled with magic. Everyone is looking forward, preparing in advance and dreaming. Isn't that wonderful? Magical night, Christmas or new year, dips into a fairy tale. And it does not matter whether you are a child or an adult, still make a wish and wait for a miracle.

Have you ever wondered how magic holidays are celebrated in other countries? Or maybe there are certain traditions associated with Christmas gifts? Let's get together with Svetlana Bulaeva, author of the blog Prezent4, look at how children and adults receive gifts in different countries.

How to receive gifts in different countries

Remember, as children, you waited for new year's morning? I Santa Claus always brought gifts under the pillow. The first thing I did was reach for the surprise, flip the pillow a few times, and always find the gift. Even if it was too big, there was a little piece of it waiting for me under my head — the candy. The rest was under the tree.

Someone gives gifts immediately on new year's eve, someone hides them under the tree or puts in special socks. And how do they do it in other countries? Propose a, to know as receive gifts in new year holidays in different countries.

For example, in the Netherlands arrange a holiday on December 6, the day of St. Nicholas (the prototype of Santa Claus). Gifts are hidden in the house, and then the whole family is looking for them.

In Poland, Santa Claus is called St. Nicholas. He comes to kids, too, 6 December and puts an gifts under the cushion or on the windowsill.

In France, French Father Christmas Peer Noel fills children's shoes with gifts.

In Norway, children are waiting for gifts from a goat. On New year's eve in children's shoes for goats put dry ears of oats. In the morning, instead of ears of corn children find in their shoes and Slippers Christmas gifts.

And in Greece, shoes are left on the doorstep at night and St. Basil fills them with gifts and sweets.

In Finland comes the "Father of Christmas" (usually the head of the family), who leaves gifts when everyone is asleep. Even adults sing songs to him to get a gift.

In America, before Christmas, hang on the door a huge bright sock for gifts.

In Italy, the fairy Banafa flies on a broom and when children sleep, fills their stockings hanging from the fireplace with many gifts.

In Sweden before New year children choose the Queen of light-Lucia. She is dressed in a white dress, a crown with lighted candles is put on her head. Lucia brings gifts to children and treats pet.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia for the New year comes Mikulas — cheerful man dressed in a fur coat, a high sheep's hat and a box on his back. In the box are candy and gifts for children.

In Germany, the gifts for New Year Christmas brings man Weinachtsmann. He comes to visit on the evening before Christmas with a cute girl-angel Christkind. She carries a basket of apples, nuts and sweets. To get the gifts, the children should read for Christkind a poem or sing a song. Just like for our Santa Claus.

Switzerland celebrates the day of the three kings on January 6. Children eat cake with a small figure, and who will find it-will be king.
