Magic: the Gathering

A collector's drug card game. The first editions were very beautiful in terms of balance and implementation, the last (about 7-8 editions, that is, for 10 years) have become a real embodiment of "feature quest" at the request of users and a reliable tool to take away the money from the population. As already mentioned, it was created by a mathematician and dispersed in an explosive way in the 90s. There were several computer games, including a stunning map thing, where you had to play for a magician who was traveling the world (it was like King's Bounty). There are allusions on MTG in the domestic series "Demiurgi". Despite the "addictive syndrome", the game teaches thinking in the spirit of optimization.

Civilization came out in two well-known versions: a huge thick and heavy box of Sid Meyer and a small, inexpensive toy from Serge Lager. Yes, yes, it's all the consequences of Sid Meyer's old departure from Microprose. In general, both are classic hiking strategies with a struggle for resources and territory. Sold to a very wide audience: here and parties, and educational goals and anything you want. In general, there were more "Civilizations", but only two survived: "premium" and "economy", all the intermediate options did not survive the competition.

Meyer's playing field

Age of Empires is a creation based on the strategy of the same name. Due to the similarity of the boxes, the Age of Discovery is often confused with the Civilization of Meyer. The difference is: Civilization is more fun than battle, there is more diplomacy and the scientific part is more complicated.

Detailed figures

Two similar games, Doom and Space Hulk. The first is a tactic based on the Duma, while the second is a tactic based on Warhammer 40k. What is interesting, Space Hulk or Star Wanderer is a long lasting almost dinosaur era (80s), but it is ideally reminiscent of the style and atmosphere of Starcraft's mission without a base. The essence - it is necessary to place fighters and modules of the ship in an initial position on the book of scenarios, and then to achieve the tactical purposes designated in a briefing by the detachment. Opponent plays for the monsters and in every way opposes the bad space infantry fighters. From the interesting - in the Hulk is very beautifully implemented radar mechanics, when you see the movement of the enemy, but do not see how much it is behind the wall. Dum is approximately similar in style, but easier to implement.

Sold, of course, as a gift to a boy or a guy. They are very popular with table geeks.

If you do not see both games, you can understand from what it is, the first time it is difficult.

Table Colonizers (Settlers)

This is a thing in itself. In the sense that the degree of simplification reaches the stage that it would be possible to take the game is not a bundle of "computer-table", and two different. Nevertheless, the atmosphere of the board and computer games is similar: very calm and pleasant. The task of the players - to develop in parallel on the island, building technically advanced cities. It seems that most of the desktop players in our country about computer versions have not even heard of. Sold as a game for families and gatherings with friends, but went well at the festival "Invasion" in the niche "relaxed with beer".

Monopoly is known as the world's most popular board game. Computer games, mostly self-propelled, it was a lot. Google especially stood out, deciding to make its monopoly in the spirit of 2.0 - but quickly ran up the copier from Hasbro won the lawsuit. On the basis of Monopoly with enviable consistency try to arrange geo-games with movement through the real streets: given the growing popularity of geo-services, perhaps soon it is worth waiting for something similar in us.

Now just good games, iconic for the market

Go is considered to be an elite game in the east and plays the same role as chess in Europe (although Go was not banned by the Inquisition unlike chess). It is noteworthy that if you lived in the Eastern Middle Ages, one way to "apply for a resume" would be to win a local official in Go. As suggested in the comments, chess is algorithmically more complicated than chess: people still win over computers.

Chess bombs

The jackal is our pride. It was developed in Moscow State University in the 60s, in the 70s it was actively played by mathematicians in Moscow and Novosibirsk at lectures. In the desktop version of the game has fully preserved the matmodel of words, but overgrown with a bunch of wonderful entourage details and got the atmosphere of "Treasure Island". The game is based on the highly modified task of a salesman. The practice has shown that it is played perfectly since the age of eight: taking into account the simplicity of the rules, the atmosphere and "transparency" of the model, is perceived by almost everyone.

Kuhandel

The game is crazy: you have to trade animals at a harsh German auction, trying to trade the whole breed. Probably, this is how Monopoly would look if it was released in Germany: perfectly tenacious traders calculate everything to the last gold, perfectly bluff, clearly catch the moment and bargain fiercely. The game is very useful because it makes you calculate the smallest steps, teaches you to bluff beautifully and in time within the framework of the overall economic strategy and, what is important, teaches you to look at money as a variable, the value of which is constantly changing.

There are only animals and money in the game. The man in the middle is not a pet, but money, zero note for bluff.

On the domestic market is little known because of the purely German box: Kuhandel simply is not localized - inside the maps, there are only pictures of animals and the number of money. Available in two versions: with well-drawn art - and with an addon and less entourage three-dimensional art. Luto I recommend the classic one. It is positioned as a road-companion game.

It will be continued, the world of games is tempting and great!
