Stress is one of the most common diseases of modern man, and therefore we can not only talk about the undeniable relevance of this topic to date but also find many other interesting statistics on the subject.
Experts also say that stress is a disease of the 21st century and it has reached the scale of the global epidemic. And this statement has the strongest grounds because today's life is replete with a huge number of irritants. What leads to the development of stress in people today?
Reasons for stress in today's world
Studies have shown that the main causes of stress are (in descending order of importance):
- stress at work, management pressure, and overload;
- Fear of job loss reduced pension and medical expenses;
- Health problems, including chronic diseases;
- Divorce, death of the spouse, problems with friends and loneliness;
- Poor nutrition, caffeine, and refined sugar use, poor quality products;
- information overloads related to the media and the Internet;
- Sleep problems increased the production of adrenaline and other stress hormones by the body.
Among the physiological reasons can be highlighted everything that adversely affects the physical condition of the person, for example:
- Poor nutrition;
- fatigue;
- Sleep deprivation;
- Changes in weather (changes in pressure, temperature, etc.)
Interestingly, physiological causes do not affect people in the same way: while some may be stressful, others may not react to them in the same way. And this difference is often explained by the second group of reasons - psychological reasons.
Among other things, stress is caused by external and internal causes. External factors are different life situations that cannot be controlled by a person (e.g., environmental conditions, weather, etc.) and problems in interaction with society (e.g., work blockages, family problems, conflicts, etc.)
And internal causes are such reasons as health problems, unjustified hopes, unrealized goals, disappointments and other factors influencing the person without external influence.
Today, it is difficult to find a person who has not experienced stress at least once. All the more so, stress is expressed mainly in the same manifestations, and they are also familiar to everyone. But we still think it would be a good idea to say a few words about the symptoms of stress.
The first steps in dealing with stress
In order to successfully deal with stress, you need not only to know with what methods it is overcome (they will be discussed below) but also to understand how it flows, as well as to be able to establish sources of pressure. Let's talk about everything in order.
Identifying the source of stress
Even the barking of the neighbor's dog can be a source of powerful psycho-emotional excitement. However, such things are perceived by a person as ordinary things; they fit harmoniously into the array of daily events, and therefore in most cases are not the main irritant.
A true stressor is usually something much larger than that.
If we start looking for a starting point, we will find it in a barking dog. When we are awake and full of energy, we perceive almost all external stimuli relatively objectively and adequately. But when we have not slept well because of the barking dog, we begin to get irritated, and through his prism, we begin to perceive everything that is happening.
As a result, after some time we already begin to "boil", to make hasty deeds, to "break firewood". And the neighbor's dog has no idea that its bark presses on our psyche and that it is because of him that our life is filled with problems, and relations with loved ones are in distress.
We have described the simplest situation, although in real life is not all that simple, and the reasons for stress are often not so obvious. But still, in the vast majority of situations, you can do without the help of a specialist to understand the problem and find its true cause - the source of stress.
Ways of dealing with stress and developing stress tolerance
Given that all people are different, there is no single, universal way to deal with stress, and what fits one can be ineffective for the other. But still, there are several methods that can be successfully used by any person. We will talk about them further:
- Elimination of the causes of stress.
- Change of attitude.
- A solution to the problem.
- Switching attention.
- Physical activity.
- Relaxation.
- Respiratory gymnastics.
- Cry.
Even this small number of ways sometimes enough to overcome the most severe stress.
