Imagine going on holiday to Zanzibar at the resort, meeting your soul mate and returning ten years later to marry her. Same beach, same sea (which is never the same but we explain this later) but this time to bring you the wedding rings is her, your daughter.
A dream?
No reality. It really happened.
The theatre of this beautiful love story was the Dongwe Resort de I Grandi Viaggi. They are two guys we met during our stay here at the end of January.
Parents, incidentally, of a beautiful little girl with whom Manina fell madly in love.
The wedding was celebrated on Saturday afternoon, on the beach of the resort, one of the most beautiful in Zanzibar, belonging to the peninsula of Jombsvi.
Dongwe Club: one of the most prestigious villages in Zanzibar
We present the location of this idyll of love. The colonial-style for all the hundred and ninety rooms of the resort, canopy beds, and mosquito nets. Flowers everywhere. Real tunnels of vegetation to go through to get to the saltwater pool. A beach with umbrellas with bamboo roofs and soft white sand like talcum powder. A long pier over the turquoise sea and a restaurant where you can say "I love you" by candlelight.
The Dongwe Club is located on the east coast of Zanzibar about six kilometers from the village of Michamvi from where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island.
The beach is affected by the phenomenon of tides that gives a different and always exciting show every day. For lovers of long baths and snorkeling, don't worry, because every day in the middle of the morning a boat takes guests off to the coral reef.
For the timeless Italian cuisine, there is a surprise: at lunch and dinner, you can enjoy the excellent pizza cooked on the spot.
Meals are served by local staff of an unforgettable kindness. We will always carry in our hearts the smiles of Hanry who always had a kind word for our little Manina and that the first night he left us on the table a welcome card containing a small Swahili-Italian dictionary that we appreciated a lot. Every time we travel we like to learn a few words of the local language as a sign of respect for the population and this could not be a better gift for us.

At the Dongwe club, we found a good part of the animation staff that we had met this summer at Santa Clara in Sardinia and it was a real pleasure to see again Samuele, Antonhy, Sebastiano, wonderful people that we will never forget. A soft animation that knows how to involve guests but at the same time is able to leave them quiet to enjoy the holiday.
For those who want to you can participate in darts, water aerobics, walking on the beach, playing coffee. Every evening there is a different proposal from the traditional cabaret to the popular Ocean Party, a real party at the pier with music and happy hour through the Swahili evening with local Zanzibar cuisine.
Zanzibar has always been one of our travel dreams and the Dongwe Club has been the ideal setting to realize it, who knows that one day we decide to come back here, perhaps to celebrate the tenth anniversary of marriage barefoot on the sand.
