Rats play hide-and-seek, and a giant leech hides at the bottom of the sea

That only scientists do not study what they are not looking for, and in addition and find in the course of their scientific experiments and searches. Judge for yourself.

We watched and watched the videos on YouTube by neurobiologists from Germany. And were inspired by the contemplation of frames, where the owners of pets demonstrated how their pets play. And pets are different. Including rats, which, as you know, are very easy to train and willing to play with people and even with each other. For example, I saw this for myself when I was holding a boy's rat. He answered the nickname, came out of his hiding place when he was called. And the shelter wasn't in a cage, I was letting him out of the cage. And he would only go back to it when he was hungry. But I was distracted.

The scientists were particularly surprised by the fact that rats could even play hide-and-seek. That's the only thing they need to learn.

A special room was equipped for rats

The rat researchers were so interested in it that they decided to find out how the rodents did it. Neurobiologists at the Humboldt University Berlin equipped a room of 30 square meters for hiding. Cardboard sheds and plastic boxes were placed there. Both transparent and not. As a result, there are seven shelters for rodents and three for humans.

The rats rejoiced sincerely at the game of hide-and-seek

The experiment involved six male rats. They quickly got used to the room and then showed readiness to play. Surprisingly, the scientists found out that the rats are playing hide-and-seek for their own pleasure. Some of the individuals involved in the experiment were demonstrating jumps of joy. Many mammals do this when they have fun.

By the way, in the heads of rats - participants of the experiment were implanted in the mini-devices that transmit electrical impulses to the brain area, involved in the training of rodents in the game of hide-and-seek.

The training consisted of closing the rat in a box with a lid, which the researcher opened with a remote control. The rats were told that it was necessary to find a person by jumping out of the box. Then the person and the rats changed roles.

Five out of six learned to play hide-and-seek

The box was left open, a man sat down and waited for the rat to escape into hiding. When everything worked out, the rat was rewarded. Five of the six rodents learned to play in two weeks. And the roles in the game did not change by chance. They also enjoyed hiding and hiding.

Why did the rats have to hide?

To be honest, I wasn't very surprised by the news, I've held rats several times in my life. It's a pity I didn't live long. You get used to them strongly, because, as it seems to me, it is quite possible to communicate with them. And that's why scientists need it, I did not understand so. And you?

A new type of leech at a depth of almost 9 thousand meters

Just like I didn't understand why we, ordinary mortals, unscientists, need a big, big leech at the bottom of the sea-ocean. Even if it is an unknown variety. Let's try to figure it out.

Scientists have studied the Kurilo-Kamchatsky chute...

and found there a previously unknown leech. The find belongs to scientists of the Far Eastern Federal University. Specialists of this educational institution by the staff of the Center for Marine Biology conducted research of the above-mentioned trough. They were joined by researchers from Germany.

Even experts were surprised

Scientists were very surprised at their discovery. The fact that at such a great depth before such species and specimens were not found. Fish leeches were not usually of such a giant size at a lower depth: from 10 to 25 mm. It is assumed that the detected specimen feeds on the blood of a certain variety of fish living in deep waters. Namely the macro use. Scientists cannot yet explain the phenomenon of giganticism. Therefore, they will continue their research.

Looking to the future

As far as I understand, the Smoking-Kamchatka chute wasn't examined to find a leech. Everything is planned with a perspective for the future. It is not a secret that mineral resources on the earth's surface are being depleted. And the latest research shows that there are enough of them at the depth of the sea. So far, technologies do not allow to develop them. But it's not far from the future. Isn't that right?

And it is probably good that already now scientists are engaged in similar researches. The earth has been mastered, having spoiled the climate, and what will happen to the environment when we get to the sea depths?
